Forgetting a lucid dream - possible?

I went to bed last night really convinced I was going to have a lucid dream, mostly because I've gotten lucid experiences the last 2 nights before that.

Anyway, I woke up this morning, and couldn't recall any dreams, so I just figured I didn't get lucid.

However, 5 minutes ago, a part of it came to my mind, and holy shit, I think I actually had the most epic lucid dream. From flying, to robbing banks or a mall, whatever it was, then fly to run from the mess I caused, then going to tell a DC (who accompanied me most of the dream, I think) it's ok, because I'm dreaming, to fighting a very powerful alien with awesome technology, and more, which I forgot.

My question basically is, is it possible to get fully lucid and then forget about it like a normal dream? Or would you remember it fully if you were lucid?

I'm not sure if I just dreamed about being lucid, or if I was actually lucid at some point (and honestly, it's kinda hard to believe, since it'd be a MASSIVELY HUGE step in LDing from me, since the night before all I managed to do was RC, then have a false awakening after a failed summoning attempt due to excitement, and lose lucidity)

If you are in a lucid dream then wake up from that, then you will most likely not forget. Because there are no gaps in being conscious.

But if your lucid dream was half way through the night, one of your earlier dreams, then you could in fact forget. Which is why it is best to work on recall. Start a dream journal. You would be surprised how much you can actually remember if you try to remember as soon as you wake up. Just write it all down. Anything you remember. This will help bring the memories fully to your conscious mind. Then you will be able to string it all up in a nice story, if you want. It's really good to be able to look back at some dreams that you will have forgotten in a year to come.

But if you keep dream journalling, your recall will improve a lot.

It was one of the early ones, yeah. I woke up at like 9 or 10am, then once again at 12 or something, then once again at 13, at which point I just got up. I'm pretty sure it was before any of those awakenings.

I am keeping a dream journal, it's still kinda lacking though, due to me having been a massive slacker for weeks, so I only actually started updating it properly last week.

Yes it's possible. I had an occurrence where I only remembered a fragment of my lucid before. Out of the blue a thought came into my head where I remember flying over a river. To this day, I still don't remember anything else other than that.

Other times the dream may be so long that there may be gaps in recall. I've had a few where I forget conversations, or how I got to the next area in that dream because of my recall and the duration of the dream.

Yea it is possible, that's why you should try to remember every dream, it might of been a Lucid one.

Yeah like everyone said it's possible. Why do you think you should focus on recall first?

Mancon123 speaks the truth in his question. The site here emphasizes improving recall before practicing induction of lucid dreams, to ensure that you can pick out dream signs for DILD-like methods and so you can remember those awesome lucids you wind up inducing.

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.

I'm doing it, I've went from thinking I didn't dream anymore to recalling 1, sometimes 2 dreams mostly every day so far. But I figured that starting to practice RCs and getting lucid couldn't hurt. Even if I don't remember a lucid, no harm done, right?
