      shroom advice

I'm going to do shrooms in sometime in the next week. I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice and maybe some insight on what to expect. I'm a little sketchy about it lasting so long and being really intense. I'm going to do it with 3 friends I think maybe 2.

Wisest move would be to not do it, but if you insist...

You can probably expect hallucinations and possibly temporary synesthesia. I used to work with someone who did shrooms from time to time. They described it as being...weird. Brake lights, for example, would become stretched and elongated, and the light would just sort of hang in the air.

Beware of a bad trip. Those happen every so often, and can haunt you for a long time.

dude you've never even done shrooms and you're giving me advice? No thanks I'm looking for somone who has had experience with this.
Everyone I know whos tryed it says it is not a party drug. They have also said it is life changing. I've heard in low doses (which is what is best to start with) you do not even hallucinate. Plus shrooms are harmless physically its not dangerous besides they're illegal most places. I'm sure there are alot of people on this site who have experience with shrooms I want to know what to expect, which is probably really hard to describe but a general idea of how I can aproach this in relation to dealing with life and the vibe of the trip i guess.

Um....yeeaaahhh...then maybe you should have specified that before jumping on me.

You could probably turn up more trip reports with five minutes of searching than you'll ever get in this thread. Shrooms aren't exactly the most common drug on the market.

A sitter isn't entirely necessary, but I could see it being helpful to have someone around who's in their right mind

Go light on dosage for your first time. Make sure you know at least how strong the srooms are, preferably what species. For my first (and so far only) shroom trip, I took a mere 1.5 grams of above average shrooms, and I found that to be enough.

Have some music ready. Whatever kind of music you like, but go for something light, upbeat. The Beatles, Hendrix, Yes, The Who, and The Doors were among what I kept at hand.

Other than that, all I can say is don't think you can imagine what it's like if you've never tripped before. Some experiences with high doses of cannabis are a good precursor, but it's quite different from pot. Just remember to take whatever comes at you. Don't try to fight it, and you won't have to.

One more note, on bad trips, it's not a Russian roulette type of thing. They don't just happen at random. There are a number of things that affectthe trip which are more or less under your control, set and setting being the most important. Your attitude toward the situation has a huge effect on how you feel, so just keep a positive mindset about it. The other half of that is setting. Make sure you're somewhere familiar. Being able to be outdoors is very nice, but the main thing is to be somewhere where you feel safe.

I've had many many trips on high doses of bud, I've also tryed salvia several times, but i heard salvia alot different.
Ya the setting is a little sketchy because we are probably going to be walking around on the street most of the time, and also I probably have to come home eventually which may not be a problem if it lasts under 7 hours.
Do you think people would easly be able to tell if we are tripping?

Yes and a half. Don't think you can just talk around it like pot. Pot is a background high. When you're tripping, you're really out of it.

If you can't secure a more favorable setting, I would reccomend you postpone the trip. Trippping is something you want to hold off on untill you get the ideal opportunity. Either go 100% or don't go.

Check out shroomery.org, as well as Erowid.

      Edit:
Have a sitter! Even if the trip isn't that intense, if you're doing it for the first time with multiple people, it might be a good idea to have at least one sober person around. More than likely you'll be fine, but trust me, if stuff goes down you'd wish you had someone there as a sitter.

I think you should do it by yourself your first time. No distractions like music, TV, etc. Ive tripped around sober people and I always find myself getting annoyed by them really quick because they make a spectacle out of me. They all expect me to do something crazy because im on shrooms. Forests are my favorite places to trip you will see why. Everyone is different, some people will feel comforted and empowered by being around others but my most profound trips have been by myself in silent darkness.

Yes, I agree. With a sitter try to find someone who actually understands what mushshrooms are about!

But the most profound are probably by yourself in silent darkness.

The important thing is to not be afraid! A lot of people try to make everything perfect for their first experience with a psychedelic drug in order to avoid a bad trip, but it is better to foster the idea that whatever happens, everything will be alright. If you plan things out too much, then even a slight deviation from what you expected to happen can put off your mood and set you down a path of negativity. Just go with the flow. It is important to do some planning though, for instance; plan to not be around any negative people who might bring you down, especially the type of negative people who feed off of creating drama. If any of the people you plan on tripping with are like this, I would suggest backing out.

Thanks for all the advice you guys. Storm crow that is exactly how I feel. and thats a really good point you made Xaqaria, the trip really is all in your head and so is your opinion about the situation you are in. Although i do find negative people are a total energy drain.
So it turns out the connect we were supposed to get shrooms from moved out of town all of a sudden, so I'll just have to wait for another opportunity I guess.

Xaqaria does have a good point.

I have found myself in a few situations that could have been very difficult to go through while tripping and the best way is to just say "it's ok, chill out". Remember that as kind of mantra, "relax", you will be much less likely to do either anything stupid, ruin your trip, get freaked out or anything. If you relax, you are much more likely to keep control and "sanity" over what you are doing and to "lose it" much more efficiently... meaning get the best out of the experience.

Even if the trip turns dark or bad, or whateer,... just... chill out and let it go. You will eventually be able to steer it in another way if you just relax. But since this is your first shroom trip, most likely it's just going to be beauty and wonder and infitiy anyway. a trip is often what you really think it's going to be. Once the expectations are gone... well... it can be anything... enjoy!

While I do like all of them... I wouldn't put them on while on a trip.

My choice would be to try something without a simple structure and leave out the vocals. Something that puts rythm in the foreground or something that is experimenting with different sounds. It can easily get weird I guess, but your senses are probably heightened enough to actually get "difficult music" on "another level"... y'know... ... I don't know... Sphongle or Aphex Twins usually do the trick for me... but there are no limits. Have different genres ready, familiar stuff too!!, and then just go with what feels right!

...or silecne / the sound of nature... that sometimes works best

I think lucid dreamers are the most equipped to control psychedelic trips; they are very similar to dreams. If you are able to use lucidity to over come nightmares, it will be much easier to keep your trip going in a positive direction.

The truth of the matter is, believe it or not, the mushroom is a spirit, which is alive. It will teach you something that you need to know. There is no point in going against it or trying to steer it in a positive direction. What mushrooms try to do is steer you into such direction, that the trip will influence and imrpove the rest of your life. All you need to do is have faith in the mushroom which has higher intelligence than you.

If you trip, and you say, ok I want it to be like this or that, it's like going to a teacher and saying to him you only want to hear this or that word... lol it really doesn't work like that in my experience.

No. Drugs contain the compound psilocybin, which is a well-known, studied hallucinogen. There is no higher intelligence locked in this piece of fungus. There is nothing magical going on behind the scenes.

I'm not a troll. You're an extremely close minded noob. You calling me a troll and saying GTFO is trolling and just extremely rude behavior when I'm dead serious. Learn to have some respect for your fellow human being please.

People like you truly make me sad. How can you be so extremely aggressive against me when I'm only trying to say the truth? Why do you hate what I'm saying so much? Why all this hate, why all this anger? I'm saying what I believe. Do I not have the freedom of speech?

You are behaving like a troll, and doing exactly what trolls do. If you wish to engage in serious debate, first start by plainly stating your claim, and supporting evidence for your claim. In this case, it would go something like...

"I claim that consciousness is a magnetic field because (source x), which is influenced by undetectable spirits found in psychedelic mushrooms (source y), rather than the compound psylocybin, which is largely studied and generally accepted to be the source of hallucinations brought on by mushrooms (source z). Further, I claim that these mushroom spirits can influence the magnetic field surrounding us (source w), and that this interference is the reason behind mushroom trips (source v)."

If you can deduce that yourself, then what is the point of me doing it?

I'm just being vague, because I'm pretty confident you are intelligent enough to understand what I'm talking about or where I'm getting at which you evidence with your reply.
