As in I got up, got some water, then went back to bed and tried to fall asleep into a dream but ended up just falling asleep :/
Nothing wrong with that! Trying to fall straight back into a dream during a WBTB is a WILD (wake-induced lucid dream.) Fortunately, this is not the only technique that WBTB enhances.
By using WBTB, you are also greatly increasing your odds of hitting a DILD (dream-induced lucid dream) where you spontaneously realize that you are dreaming during a dream already in progress. (Virtually all of my lucid dreams have been DILDs, so I like it just fine.) WILD's a great technique for many folks, but missing it and falling asleep still leaves you with a great chance at a DILD.
