      Listening to Music

      So its been a habit of mine for as long as i can remember. i like to fall asleep to music. i put my itunes on shuffle and knock out. for some reason i cant stand falling asleep in the pitch dark, without a sound. its eriee. but anyways just wondering if anyone else does the same, and if it has any effects on the dream recall and becoming lucid and all that.

      Over the past three or four weeks, I've began listening to music before bed (and not the relaxing kind, more like rock!). I can definitely say it's had an impact on my recall; I recall four or five less dreams per week than I used to. That's why I'm going to stop listening to music as I fall asleep soon.
      We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
      some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      listening to music lessened my ability to become lucid when i would listened to it through out the day while doing daily activities that are otherwise uneventful like traveling to class. it was like a constant reality check because i knew all the songs and they all sounded on target so i never did and reality checks. but someone did tell me to watch tv before going to sleep to help my dream recall but idk if it worked.

      Had my first lucid dream last night and the only thing that was different about the way I went to sleep was that I listened to music as I noded off. I was listening to Bach's cello suites No.s 1,5&6.
      It could be a complete coincidence of course, or perhaps it put my brain into a more analytical state as I was appreciating the cello as I fell asleep.

      huh, thats interesting. i might try to just listen to a certian genre of music while i sleep. the consistency of the type of music might be the difference. putting my itunes of shuffle could be costly as i have damn near every thing from disturbed, system of a down, and tool, too fiona apple, cat power, and sara bareilles.

      depite keepin a strict dream journel, im still having trouble with remembering my dreams. i can remember tidbits, and they usually come to me later in the day. like last night i didnt remember anything about my dreams, but when i went to the store today, i saw a lady taking out the trash, and i had a HUGE weird vibe that dumpsters were a major part of my dream :S

      haha Yeah I love when that happens. Or rather I love when it leads to a huge wave of remembrance of a dream.

      I don't know how much the music had to do with it (most likely nothing) but I would think if you were going to attempt to use any music to induce lucidity, you'd need to use a type of music that you can simply turn on, turn the lights off to and enjoy in the dark even if you were not aiming to go to sleep. The kind of stuff that requires no deeper thought or appreciation would probably do nothing but numb the brain while the stuff you think about and truly feel would probably be the type of music that would — if any actually can — do some good by making the brain a bit more analytical. Just a though.

      Ooh Bach cello suites, good choice! Who's the performer?

      I found that watching television before bed gave me good recall, and pretty vivid dreams, since my mind was in the 'absorb content passively' mode. As an amateur LDer, it completely made me lose any type of awareness, and didn't even remember myself being in the dreams or having any interaction in them until the last few minutes of sleeping. The rest was all in 3rd person.

      Music could be different though- depends on how you listen to it, maybe? Do you just turn it on as white noise, or do you listen and appreciate fully something beautiful [like Bach] or peaceful? Experiment with different types of music, and make sure to write down the factors of your experiments and results.

      Yo-Yo Ma. Faultless performance but the recording is a just a tiny bit annoying because you ca. Hear him breathing occasionally.

      I listened to Beethoven's 7th while I was going to sleep last night and can't even remember a dream. Having said that I got to sleep kinda late.

      I generally listen to music before I go to bed but not while I am attempting to fall asleep. I feel like if I listen to music while attempting to fall asleep it overstimulates my brain and makes it much harder for me to fall asleep and induce sleep paralysis or a lucid dream. I guess it all comes down to the persons preference.

      Keeping the music to a certian type has proven to be fairly sucessful for me these last couple of nights. I've had very excellet dream recall and even experienced my first lucid dream two nights ago. I've been listening to Fiona Apple's Tidal & Extraordanay Machine albums. It's funny the first song I listen to by her is titled "Sleep to Dream." haha. But she's working for me now, and the way I see it: if it aint broke; don't fix it.

      The music thing is hit or miss I've noticed, for me anyway.

      When I do choose to listen to music at night I let my mind wander letting whatever images or actions that come up in my mind according to the music appear, in a sense allowing a "mental music video" to play out. A few times I noticed that I was in a dream after focusing long enough on it! The majority of the time though, I have absolutely no recollection of anything going on.

      I've never really had a successful lucid dream yet. But listening to music can really make it a lot easier to get a wild. For me, like after i got home from work i like to go listen to some songs on my computer and lean back in my chair(tilted back) and close my eyes and just relaxxx for a bit....cause i'm kinda tired. I easily get these hypnagogic flashes or what do you call them. Like the start of a wild while being completely awake. Especially when i pay attention to the lyrics my mind automatically draws pictures in my mind and sometimes get totally confused like in the morning when someones wakes you up and talking to you you understand like half of what they say cause your still half dreaming lol. Anyway, listening to music helps for me, it's much harder without it lol. I'ts a good way for practising wild imo i tried several thing and what to focus on during a song and you'll find out what works best. Try this song i listened to last time, it's nice : YouTube - Baby, now that I've found you - Alison Krauss and Union Station Also, that's mostly the kind of music i listen to. I listen to a lot of country.
