Alright I haven't read about this being common soo...

I've never had a dream that took place in a place that I'm really familiar with. I think that if I dreamed in my own house or something I would instantly become lucid because I've never had a dream that was visually as real as real life. I wonder if my brain knows this somehow so it just doesn't put me in places that I'm familiar with... It's interesting but at the same time kind of annoying because there are some places I'd like to visit during my LDs which I can't get to because I simply can't get myself to teleport or anything in them haha. Well I dunno, is this true for anyone else? (never had a dream in a familiar place)

It probably differs from person to person, so I wouldn't say it's too uncommon. Lots of my dreams occur at school, but most others occur in strange, made-up places too. For me it's 50/50.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

It just depends for me, I dream more about places I haven't been to or exist but sometimes my dreams occur at school or home.

Oh okay thanks. I just have read a lot of experiences of people at home or at school so I was like whaaa?? because I've never dreamed of either place, at least that I can remember. I don't remember my dreams very often though unless they're lucid I must say so maybe I have.

Edit: Actually.. How would I go about increasing my recall? I really want to be able to remember my dreams but I never can v.v

Here's a copy-paste from my DILD guide. It really helps me to remember dreams if I'm going through a dry spell.

When you wake, try just relaxing in bed with your eyes closed. Focus and think of key words, seeing if they resonate with something you dreamed about. Staying relaxed helps keep your brain in "sleep mode" for a few moments so you may be able to recall dreams easier. Or, you can always go on Dreamviews and read other people's dreams to see if they remind you of one that you had.
You'd be surprised how many times I've remembered dreams when I logged onto DV!

Oh okay thanks. I've tried just laying and thinking when I wake up without getting out of bed but it doesn't seem to help. When I don't remember dreams, it seems more like there weren't any anyways. Like it's not a space that I can't remember, it's just I fell asleep and then was awake haha. I'll try doing this more though but I usually don't get a chance due to my parents yanking me out of bed in the morning...

Even writing down one sentence of something you can remember will gradually lead to better recall. Put down anything you can remember, there's gotta be something.

Try taking vitamin B6 before bed to help with dream vividness. Or if you don't want to go to the drugstore, drink a glass of apple juice an hour or so before bed.

Haha yeah that usually works when I can remember any part of it but most days there's just nothing =O

And oh okay I'll try the apple juice until I can get some vitamin B6, thanks

I have always found that Vitamin B-6 ruins my dream recall! give it a shot though, it probably works for most people.

I don't really dream of familiar places either. Usually it's a random location.

What sort of places do you dream about, if they are not familiar?
