      Extremely New to Lucid Dreaming

Hi there. I am relatively new to this site. Actually been a member for about 10 minutes

A friend had been talking to me about his success with lucid dreaming which interested me quite a bit. I have been reading up on the subject some but I have found that I learn more when hearing it from others.

My main question is what exactly should I do as a beginner in this area? Also about how long might it be(general) before I attain a lucid dream?

I am really eager to experience this and I look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks!

      Hi, welcome to Dreamviews!

I remember when I first realized I could control my dreams, and joined this forum. It was pretty daunting, but hey, everything's like that at first.

The first thing you should do it check out the Dreamviews wiki (linked near the top of this page). It'll lead to some tutorials about different techniques used to lucid dream, and there's also a page that lists common abbreviations that we use on the forum. For starters, you may want to consider reading up on one of these three techniques:

DILD - dream induced lucid dream. Basically, becoming aware that you're dreaming when you're in the dream itself. DV tutorial here.
WILD- wake induced lucid dream. Staying still and relaxed for a long period of time, entering sleep paralysis, and going directly to a dream from the waking state (which is pretty cool, but can be unnerving at first!). DV tutorial here.
MILD- mnemonic induced lucid dream. It's basically using the placebo effect, telling yourself you'll have a lucid dream and then you'll actually have one. DV tutorial here.

I have a rather helpful tutorial for DILD of my own. If you'd like to have a look at it; it's in my signature below. It's helped a lot of people because it focuses mainly on awareness, a very important aspect of DILD that isn't covered as much by other tutorials.

As for time... There's no set amount of time it'll take before you have your first LD, one can't really even estimate. Myself, it took a few days, but other people can take more or less time, even months. It depends on how well you know your stuff and how much you know about the technique you want to try out. So, have a look around at the different tutorials and read up!

      Good luck!

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

If you have poor dream recall a good starting place is a dream journal (they have them on the site here for you), just record what you remember until you can recall a few dreams. Also another handy thing to look up asap is prolonging techiniques....this way if you luck into a lucid dream the first night it might actaully last more than a tenth of a second :p And for the final advice look up reality checks and do some research on those.

      Welcome to the site
