Smile New to this dreaming thing

      Hello!

My name is Víctor and I'm an 18 year old spanish physics student. I first heard of lucid dreaming a couple days ago but I immediately new it was something I wanted to do.

At first I was kind of sceptical of the whole thing but after some research it appears to be legit, so i want to learn. I was worried because I´m the kind of guy who never remembers his dreams but I started a dream journal last night using a program i found on this forum (searching for a program like that was how I found the forum) and putting a notebook near my bed and an alarm clock I was able to recall a full dream and a little bit of another one.

I'm not going to attempt to induce lucid dreaming just yet, instead I'm going to work on my recalling abilities, but I know I'll manage it because I really want to be able to do this. For now I guess I'll check out the forum and try to learn some things.

I'd be very grateful if you could tell me if I did allright in my first dream journal entry and I'd also appreciate any advice you can give me.

One question that I reallly would like you to answers is about the realism of lucid dreams. As I understand it in a lucid dream you become aware that it is a dream but does it change your perception of it? What I mean is are the things you see more defined for example or something like that?

Anyway I'm looking forward to being a part of your community.

      Bye

Hi and welcome to DV! It's great that you intend to improve your recall before you start trying to get lucid, but you should atleast become a bit familiar with Reality Checks. Do them every now and then, and perhaps set up a goal you really want to achieve. This might be enough for you to become lucid just like that, with barely any effort at all.

The realness varies, sometimes it's super realistic, sometimes it's a bit fuzzy. You can always improve it by rubbing your hands or focusing really hard. Check out the Wiki part, it's great for info and contains a few nice tutorials: Wiki - Dreamviews Lucid Dreaming Community & Resource

If you have more questions, feel free to ask here. Keep on dreaming!

Hey Fernanvic, im fairly new as well. I have lucids fairly often but I am not yet able to control the dream world much. One thing I am pretty good with is my recall, I can recall at least one dream a night sometimes more. My only advice is make sure u write in your journal as often as you can. Also, make note of any detail you can remember, colors, shapes, clothes. Keeping track of the little things will make the memory more vivid in your mind and will improve your recall greatly.

      Good luck

      Hi! Welcome to DV!

Yes, things are way more "defined" or vivid in a dream. Incredibly so!!

Thanks everyone! Yeah I'm already doing reality checks like every five minutes, figured it would be a waste of time not to.

Well, the thing to remember with reality checks is that it is good to do them often, but be sure that they do not become habit. What I mean by this is, they completely lose their effectiveness if you do them half-heartedly out of routine. It's incredibly frustrating to do a reality check in a dream, only to come to the conclusion that you are awake
