      Hi, Im Steve :D

Well I just joined this website, and just found out about lucid dreaming a couple of hours ago (maybe 1?). At 1st when i read about it i was saying no way in hell am i doing this (way too scared) but so far from what i read, nothing bad can happen from this correct?

Seeing as how it takes 3-4 weeks (or longer) to do this, and i am accepting the fact i will be failing what are the best methods to start? how long would it be before i could start "controlling" my dreams atleast a little?

Also i'm currently in a online relationship (for 3 years) i turned 18 this year and am going to FINALLY meet this girl later this year, lets say if i was good enough with LD, could i specificly dream up a scenerio of us meeting for the 1st time and see how my mind would play it out?

Also what are some keywords i should know? like LD for example.

P.S: This is blowing my mind O_O i never thought this would be possible, you know knowing your asleep and dreaming and actually being able to do something....

No nothing bad can happen when you LD.

The best techniques to start is MILD and DILD mnemonic induced lucid dream and dream induced lucid dream.

Yeah nothing bad can happen. As far as dreaming up a scenario you can if you want. Just realise that your mind is making the scene and it may not be close to what happens. Basic keywords are in the list Dakotahnok posted. DILD, WILD, MILD, DEILD, Reality Check, Dream Sign and Dream Journal are the main ones. Welcome to the forums!

And lucidity may come to you after one day or after many months. Dont get discouraged. Remeber to journal anything dream related you remember each morning. Recall is the biggest aid to lucid dreaming. The more dreams your recall the higher your chances of remembering a lucid dream.

Also check out the DreamViews Academy. Some classes will be starting soon including MILD. PercyLucid is the on topic admin and he teaches the class.

      Good Luck.

Great you answered all my questions thanks, will be looking at all those links. i was thinking of trying WILD but it seems scarey (halucinations anyone?) and even though you grow out of fearing it, ill try it another time.

Meh WILD has never been scary for me. It just depends on the person. I would recommend trying the MILD. And if you PMed PercyLucid he should be able to get you into his class.

If your friend is a guy tell him he can bang Megan Fox and he will pay attention. If you have any questions you can post here or PM me. And yeah having someone to talk with LDing about helps.

Just want to say welcome to the forums!

First of all, since everyone gave you plenty of advice, i just want you to know that wen you do get it lucid (probably in a couple weeks) you may seem a little excited at first, but you have to be sure not to get very excited. You need to stay calm and become focused on the dream. You also want to pick a few reality checks, to see if you are dreaming. These comsist of plugging your nose and trying to breathe through it (if you can, you're dreaming!) looking at your hands (count the fingers and note their size. I almost didn't get lucid because, even though all my fingers were there, one was really short) and also looking at a clock, turning away, then looking back a few seconds later. If it changed (aside form one minute ) you're most likely dreaming!

As far as controlling your dreams, it usually takes a few lucids (about 3 or 4) to be able to do most of the things. It all comes with practice.

Good luck, don't give up, and have fun!

Yeah good post Burke. The RCs listed are the most common but not the only ones. And never give up. Lucid dreaming takes lots of time and effort. But it is well worth the effort.

Again thanks for all the advice, glad to see helpful people. I'll start tonight with MILD/DILD. My friend decided he wasn't interested because its just not reality and thus he doesn't care about it. I'll tell all my other friends that would be interested though xD.

Also getting into a sleeping habit would only be useful for stuff like WILD right? because at the moment i don't have 1 i could go at 9 pm or 12 am or 2 am...

Edit: same thing with going to sleep hungry/thirsty does it matter for MILD/DILD? (i guess this could matter as my mind would be on food/water.)

I'm not an expert on WILD so I'm not going to be a super big help. But of you need to wake up for something just remember that your going to lose some sleep so going to bed earlier to compensate helps.

I never said I was going for WILD i was just asking if those 2 things factor into MILD/DILD. I'm going to stay away from MILD for a little while.

Ohh I didn't see your edit. No those things shouldn't effect you more then they would during regular sleep.

Well if you have a regular sleep schedual then you will have the same REM periods every night. Your body will get used to it and you will have a better chance lucid dream.

Good to know, once again thanks you've been really helpful. I wish more forums online were like this with less trolls xD

Ok well ill probably be going to sleep in 20-ish minutes, got my journal right by my bed with a pen, a watch on me (for RC), but im not tired yet.. dont know how much that will mess it up, hopefully when i do the relax for 10-20 minutes i become sleepy then i can repeat a manta right before i fall asleep.

Edit: I might just start trying to get a sleeping habit ready. As i do not have a job currently and i take courses online, i can go to sleep at anytime but if it helps with this its worth a try.

Ok, question. Can you go into WILD without trying? For example if i was to try and sleep and not move but still stay awake repeating "I will know that I am dreaming", could i become sleep paralyzed yet still consciously awake without trying?

I have usually never tried to stay sleep yet be consciously awake before, so i have no idea how it feels. But i could of swore last night, that i was entering that mode and freaked out and decided to start moving and "prevent" it from happening. I was starting to breathe more heavy then i ever did before while attempting to fall asleep and I wasn't controlling my breath. I didn't want to move, i felt like i could of just layed there for hours and not have moved a bit. it was mostly the breathing thing that freaked me out as i usually don't start breathing heavy like that at all.

It also seemed like i felt my heart beat a lot clearer and I was just "clear" of everything on my mind. Anyways i didn't want to be sleep paralyzed, nor see things and hear things so i decided to forget about Lucid dreaming for this night. i was actually afraid to try and sleep for a little while fearing it might happen again.

Butttt it wasn't all a total failure. I for some reason woke up at 5 AM (which is very early for me), had absolutely no dreams at that time. went back to sleep woke up at 9 AM, knew i had 2 dreams but i could only remember my last.

All the characters in it that i knew, all had something to do with me yesterday and lucid dreaming. so i don't know if that means something xD. To leave it at short i was robbing something from a grocery store with a girl i planned on trying to get in my lucid dream, and there was a mob of people after us(one of them were the owners of the store). thats not how it ended nor how it started but that was the middle of the dream.

I wrote down all the details of the dream i remember in my DJ, and accidentally fell asleep again till 11 pm. his time when i woke up i forgot about not moving and by the time i remembered i should check if i had dreams, it was way too late.

i'm not scared easy, but the way everyone describes WILD is well.. i really don't wanna feel paralyzed nor see/hear things, cant express this enough.

Also i have 1 question, when i tell people about this. this question comes up the most.

"But how do i know how it feels to drive that car, or have sex, or do anything i never did? if i never experienced how would my mind know what it would fell like."

How do i answer that ^

Hey yeah you can WILD without trying. That is one of the best ways to do it. Focusing to much will hurt your attempts.

As far as experiences you haven't had. Your brain does fill them in. It uses similar experience, your expectations, and the random other bits are just made up. So your previous driving experience, why you think the car will drive like (most likely fast), and then parts like the interior of the car and the smell will just be made up.

The experience will be quite realistic. And as stated above maybe better.
