      My WBTB Procedure. Advice Welcome.

Alright so i'm going to list out everything i did last night to attempt a WBTB, and want to know if anything i'm doing is wrong or if something i'm not doing that i should be.

      1. I get into bed after setting my alarm for roughly 6 hours of sleep.
      2. I repeat my mantra's and slowly fade into sleep
      3. When i'm woken up by my alarm i get out of bed and hop on my computer for some light reading on LDing.
      4. I have a LD mp3 that i downloaded which i usually listen to during this time.
      5. After reading for a good amount of time and i'm sure i'm awake, i'll get back into bed.
      6. Usually i'll listen to the LD mp3 one more time in the dark and just count my breathing(its about a 12 minute track).
      7. I'll turn the music off, and lay in my bed thinking my mantra's and attempt to wild, but it has yet to show any results.
      8. This is when i'll usually drift into sleep.

I've taken most of these steps from other forums on DV, but i'm not sure if i'm forgetting to do anything. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.

How long are you staying up for? If you stay up too long, you may have exited REM.

I usually eat some food while thinking on LD'ing and what I am going to do when I go to bed. Perhaps focusing on that alone without the computer and music and stuff will work? I also visualize alot when I am about to go back to bed, as I have an easier time doing that than keeping a mantra up for a longer time.

This morning i stayed up for about 30 minutes. most things i read said anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes, so i figured around 30 would be a good place to start.

And what you do sounds like it would work just as well, I'll give that a try tonight! I'm not sure about the eating part though. I never really have an appetite early in the morning. Does eating play a significant part?

Nah I just eat because I normally eat at that time, and I'm often very hungry when I wake up. Also, how often do you try WBTB? I try to do it only once a week, as the body gets used to the pattern and I'm not sure, but I think you will have less dreams if you do it consistantly. I try to see WBTB as something special. Making the placebo effect kick in and when I've seen it work alot of times, I believe in it even more. Makes me get butterflies in my stomach while sitting there and eating, as I KNOW I will get lucid when I go back to bed.

Also I often do a WBTB when I've done a REM-rebound. Usually that's not on purpose, just that I don't get enough sleep during the week.

I usually stay up for less than 5 minutes. I find that going longer makes it difficult for me to go back to sleep, try that.

well seeing as how i still have to get up for school at 6 am, and am up until roughly midnight doing homework, WBTB is usually a weekend thing for me. During the week i just try DEILD's since i lose virtually no sleep. But if staying up for 5 minutes is a sufficient enough time, then i could probably fit another WBTB in, in the middle of my week. By the way, i've been telling myself to wake up after REM periods before i go to sleep, and i am having ridiculously amazing success with that. i woke up 3 times last night with a dream fresh in my mind! i think i'm going to try to stick to DEILD's from now on.

I say keep it - sounds identical to my old WBTB procedure - it took a few nights, but then without fail, I had lucids.

Could also suggest playing with the amount of time you stay up for - tonight, try 15minutes?

yeah i want to try a few different times to find what works best for me, but i really dont have a set sleeping schedule. i go to bed anywhere from 10pm to 1am most nights. so if i change the amount of hours i sleep before i WBTB then i should be able to do this every night without developing a pattern right?

any reason you go to bed that late? study?

if not, i suggest having an actual time you get into bed - the more of a routine it becomes, the more effective your WBTB will be.

I'm a senior in high school, so my homework tends to vary. This is why i'm trying to get good at DEILDing. I've been waking up literally every hour and a half to 2 hours. I'm hoping this is because i've been making it a point to convince myself that i will wake up after every rem period. i can only manage to wake up with my eyes still closed about 1 in 5 times though =\
