Point in the right direction? Help With WILD?

      Hey everyone.

I'm new to this whole thing. i only found out about LD a couple of days ago. From what i have researched there are lots of different methods to obtain a LD. The method that i would like to use is WILD because i like that fact of going straight into a LD. I have tried to WILD only once just too see if anything would happen (99% of me knew nothing would happen). And obviously nothing did happen. There were 2 things i tried last night. The first thing was an app which i found on my IPod touch. the basic concept behind it is about frequency. i think it was something like 10-17hz is a relaxed but conscious state of mind associated with LDing. The explanation on how this works is that the human hearing can't hear a 17hz sound. But what this app does is plays two tones. 1 in each ear. But 1 tone has a higher frequency. For example one tone is 500hz and the other tone is 517hz. the brain hears both these tones and notices the 17hz difference between them. then the brain frequency or something syncs up to the beat of the tone which then makes you relaxed. This sounded perfect so this is what i tried before i went too sleep last night. Just to lie still listening to this track to try get into the "body-asleep-mind-awake" stage. i did notice some of my body get heaver. But i found it hard to keep my eyes shut. they seemed after a while just to slowly open up. I also found it really hard to try keep a "clear mind" and to stop swallowing. It didn't work so i fell asleep with my alarm set to go of at 4:00am. it went off and i woke up. i was really tired and couldn't be bothered to setup the app so i just lied there trying to ignore all the twitches and itches. But i only found my self to wake up and it was time for school. As i say im new to all of this and this was my first real attempt at doing it. So hear are some questions i need to get cleared up.

      1. I cant actually remember the last dream i had. And i don't see to remember my dreams anymore.

      2. How do i keep a "clear mind". What do i do to try keep my mind clear and to stop my self from falling asleep.

      3. Are my techniques that I'm doing look ok?

      4. How can i stop my eyes keep opening or becoming side tracked.

      5. Any suggestions in general?

Thanks guys if you actually sat there and read my wall of text. lol. I could really use some pointers in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated and i will certainly keep you updated with my results (that's if you want to hear my boring results lol)

      Thanks again

      Calum

I'm not an expert on this, but I'll try to help:

      1. Try telling yourself before you go to bed that you will remember your dreams. Also set your alarm to wake you up during a REM phase, and when you wake, just lay still remembering what happened and then write it in a dream journal.

      2. Try to keep your mind occuppied, not so that it keeps the body awake, but that it's still functioning and thinking and not just falling asleep. Concentrate on that so when you start to enter SP you don't get distracted.

      3. I would just try to go into SP first, there's a few tutorials on here. Although I'm not sure, so you'll have to wait for clarification.

      4. Just ignore them. Try not to have too much involvement. If you can keep your mind occupied enough (Usually thinking about the dream you're going to enter) helps, so you shouldn't even notice the urges, twitches etc.

      5. Read the tutorials on here about WILDing. There's a lot of methods, and you might find one that suits you. Hope I helped.

      If you find yourself falling asleep too quickly during your WILD attempts, try getting out of bed for a few minutes. It might help wake you up a bit more and clear your mind. When you WILD, you need to use some sort of mental exercise to keep a part of your mind alert while the rest of you falls asleep. Some common ones are;

-Counting, while visualizing each number in your head like a digital clock or odometer on a car.
-Imagining walking down a flight of stairs, counting each stair.
-Imagine yourself climbing a ladder that extends from your body into the sky. Again, you can count each rung if you like.
-Imagine walking through your house touching things or opening doors.

Anything that is easy for you to picture and repetitive should work. You want to get a rhythm down so you can drift off a little without losing yourself completely. Don't worry if your mind wanders. It is supposed to. Just calmly bring your attention back to what you were doing. During one of these brief lapses in attention, you may even fall asleep and begin to transition to a dream.

Whatever you do, don't get frustrated or overly excited. You need to fall asleep to dream, so it is better to fall asleep than to keep yourself awake all night.

Think i like the idea of the on going stairs and counting each step. i might try that tonight. And PeeTee36 thanks for the tips and i will certainly be trying out the method you said about remembering your dreams and yer im going to try to get into the SP before i try to LD. after all i need to learn how to remember my dreams otherwise i might now remember if i have LD. Ill keep everyone updated on my progress if you want to follow along with me. Thanks again guys.

the app is called "Dream Inducer". Just search "Lucid Dream" in app store and its the second result. its 59p but i think its worth it. theres another app too called "sleep cycle alarm clock" which i think is a must buy. Basically you place your IPod touch or IPhone on you bed and it monitors you sleep throughout the night by your movement. Then draws a graph when u were in deep or light sleeps. Its ment to be an alarm clock which gradually wakes you up by monitoring your sleep to see when your in a light sleep, but i turn off the alarm and just use to monitor my sleep. Perfect for WILDing because you can work out when your usually in deep sleep then set your alarm for that time. Check it out guys. there both a must buy i recon.
