      WILD and WBTB

ok so ive never attempted either of these two techniques and im just not comprehending how they work...so heres what i think i understand...
For WILD you lay down as into go to sleep close you eyes and relax but keep you mind going as in counting or something... but i just dont understand how i can go to sleep while counting without loosing consciousness..and the WBTS is as i understand you wake up interrupting a REM cycle and staying conscious for from what i have read from varying sources between 10-15 minutes as far up to a hour. then go back to sleep, so i guess i really need someone to break down how WILD works because i just cant wrap my brain around it Please and thank you

Wild should be attempted in the early hours of the morning, after give or take 3-6 hours of sleep. You lay there motionless till your body is tricked into falling asleep. You will now be conscious with your body asleep till your dream forms. Some say count or repeat mantras, some say clear your mind but try and stay conscious.
It is recommend that your get sleep before attempting to Wild but you might be able to get away with no sleep. Everyone is different and following someone else's way of a technique is not necessarily the right way. Practice new techniques every night till you find one that works for you.
      hope that helped lol.

5-6 hours into sleep is best for both WILD and WBTB. WILD can also be attempted during afternoon naps.
You should really give the Wiki a browse and get more information.

Welcome to the forums, both are performed by laying in bed motionless for an extended period of time. Eventually your body will think it is asleep but your mind will still be awake leaving you with an open mind and a dream world. WBTB involves the same process except you stay awake for a period of time and then go back to bed. You should learn the techniques in and out before attempting to perform them.

Out of curiosity, is it better to try and ALMOST go to sleep? Or simply to lie there for an extended period in full consciousness? (eyes closed in a sleeping position, obviously)

I'm asking because my only lucids have been WILDs and I'm trying to get better at the process, typically for me I'm just pretty good at being half asleep but still conscious, but today when I felt the vibrations coming on I'd be just jolted into full consciousness and they would diminish.

You need to remember that to WILD you must fall asleep, and remaining fully conscious isn't going to do anything because you won't sleep.

You need to find yourself an anchor that let's you remain just aware enough to be a little conscious as you're falling asleep I like to focus on my breathing.
