Yes indeed, that was a lucid dream! As Refrain said, it doesn't always become extremely vivid. That is just a desirable possibility. My advice is to simply try to build on your experience. You've had one LD, now try for 2! If you could just have one twice as long, wouldn't that be cool? Many people report extremely gratifying LD's where they just walk around and check out the environment their own brain created for them. To me, that alone is deep stuff. If you can appreciate simple things like that, flying and imitating Godzilla will be even more fun!
Edit: I think your dream simply ended because of excitement from your realization. That's normal. You probably already know this, but if not - the main challenge is to walk the fine line between not getting too excited and not getting so relaxed you lapse back into regular dream mode.
