      Why do we Dreams?

Why do we Dream? To be honest, I think we Dream so our brain can test our emotions. For say: You have a happy Dream, your happy. You have sad Dream, your sad. You have a angry Dream, your angry. And if you have a scary Dream, your scared. I think it makes scene. What do you think?

in all honesty your theory probably isn't accurate, no offense. It's true that emotions are stronger in dreams, but I don't think you can say if you have a happy dream that means you are a happy person that night, or vice-versa. There are many theories about why we dream, but I think the most logical is the activation-synthesis theory. I'd also so that no one knows for sure.
The Key is to combine your waking rational abilities with the infinite possibilities of your dreams, because if you can do that, you can do anything.

That is the question to be answered, isn't it? No one knows, all we have is theory, so it is impossible to say "You are wrong" but also we can't say "You are right" unless you have scientific evidence (rather than an idea or baseless theory) to prove it. So, hm, interesting idea for sure. I suppose dreams could work as a "cushion" to adjust yourself to certain experiences (such as trauma, which actually people have suggested this idea before), however I know I personally have had dreams with no emotions at all (that I recall), just a vague presence. So what about those?

I think it's an outlet for our brain. To let it all out in a big pile of randomness. Mix of everything. a small strain of thought a day could develop to a whole new thing into your dream at night. Our brain works on something all the time, kind of multi-tasks, like working in the background. Something forgotten may be remembered for the brain to use in a dream.

I would like to think that the brain creates something on it's own, that all creativity just blossoms...

Gee, when I made this thread, I didn't think everyone would be proving me wrong! I just thought we could talk about why we Dream! Why can't people talk about something WITHOUT proving them wrong!?! Oh yeah, when I said happy Dreams make you happy etc, I meant AFTER you wake up. (Unless your Lucid, of course )

Don't take it bad. People are just informing you why they THINK your wrong. Maybe to give you some extra info.

Dreaming has been shown to have an important impact on learning. For instance, if you learn to play soccer in real life, what you learned when you were awake is reinforced much more when you play soccer in your dreams.

That's one way of looking at dreams from an evolutionary/purposeful standpoint.

Personally, I don't really know why we dream, but it certainly gives the lucid dreamer a key to his own subconscious, and therefore his reality. If that was the intent, then I don't understand how that could have simply evolved. It did, though, whether or not we understand it.

I count one post that directly claims that you are wrong. Don't make it sound like we are "ganging up" on you. You posted a theory on a forum of thousands of people. Expect feedback that doesn't completely agree with what you posted. These people seem to be carrying the discussion just fine.

Dreams do this a lot, they pass on dream feelings into real life. But I don't think it's to TEST my emotion, not for me anyway. Then I would wonder why it doesn't test me being sad or angry because I am mostly almost happy from a dream. Just my thoughts though. And I don't get scared from nightmares anymore, so that's not it for me. But whatever, you can have your theory, for yourself, I just don't think that's it for me.

All this is an unanswered question like the meaning of life. And I think it's just the same answer; it is what you make it.

My Idea isn't even a theory! Its just an idea I randomly thought about! I just thought we could talk about the idea and see if it could scientifically become a theory. ?

It's weird though, when we dream our brain activity is much higher than when awake... I find that odd. maybe if it was as high when awake we all would be hallucinating?

It's to help our subconscious calm down and reflect on the day. Even if we recall nothing of it, dreams are vital for our sanity.
For those of us who are skilled in recall, we can learn a lot from dreams.

Your brain does a LOT when you are asleep. Arguably more than when you are awake. And to answer your question, not necessarily. But that is one reason why brain activity is so high during REM is because of these hallucinations.

You body sleeps, your brain doesn't. Even during unconscious sleep your brain is still doing a lot of work.
The Key is to combine your waking rational abilities with the infinite possibilities of your dreams, because if you can do that, you can do anything.

I found out that If you don't get enough REM sleep, you may start to hallucinate.

The brain is being completely upside down, working more when you're shut down. It's like turning off the computer just to make it work faster.

The modern scientists' most supported theory is that dreams are a way for the brain to easily assimilate and think about all the information we have received during the day. This includes thoughts. They speculate that dreams might also help you transfer events from your short term memory (Ever since you woke up) to long term memory, which would hold the memories for as long as they'd be there.

They most liely have more evidence than random people's uneducated guesses, but I'm not very well versed in the subject, so I don't remember exactly what.
