      Unhappy A few problems

      Hello all.
I live on a college campus and have had trouble meditating and relaxing because of all the noise around me. Does anyone have a solution to get past that or to help me? I really wish I could buy a pair of noise canceling headphones but they cost so much. Thanks

Well you could just get some simple ear plugs (the soft spongy ones are pretty comfortable). Then you can run a fan that will provide a constant dull drone. The combo of these two should at least dull, if not not drown most of the noise and allow you an opportunity to relax. You can also wear a beanie/toboggan that covers your plugged ears. This will help increase your defense against noise.

Thanks for the insight... I will try those when I have a chance to get some. Now for my next problem, I tried for a WILD last night and I think I may have got it, but only briefly. I got to 250 count breaths and I was in SP and then it felt like I was going through a warp of some kind at lightspeed and it felt like everything around me was shaking, including my eyes which felt like they were looking every way at once. After about 15secs the effect wore off and I went back to being in bed to which I performed a reality check and I was not in a dream. Was this a very short REM cycle or was it just on the edge of a dream? I didn't see any HHs but I'm 75% I was in SP. Thanks for your feedback.

Yes you were definitely in SP. The warp feeling actually was a HH. I'm not sure what kicked you out, but basically you have to just sit back and casually observe the process as if nothing strange is happening (you may have gotten excited or been overly surprised which could have kicked you). Basically, just let the warp take you wherever and continue to fall into a deeper and deeper sens of relaxation. Once you get into SP like this, you just have to transition (finish falling asleep). Congrats on your progress!

Thanks again for responding... Just got through a Afternoon nap session. I made slight progress, I was once again in SP and let my thoughts wander, but I didn't have any HHs. When I'm doing this I always have Binatural Beats looping on my ipod. Is it possible that these are preventing me from going farther? I was "asleep" for about an hour, when my roommate burst in. I really need to find a private spot to practice.... :/

If the binaural beats are distracting you/you find your self focusing on them/paying attention to them...then they could be a problem. You could listen to them for a while until you get nice and relaxed and then remove them and see if that helps.

To be honest, I have WILDed in the library before. I found a fairly secluded spot, pulled my hat down low and WILDed in there. It stays pretty quiet in there. Of course, you would have to be able to fall asleep in a chair. We have some of those comfortable arm chairs here, and I just laid a book on my lap and got into a position that looked like I could be reading. No one ever bothered me, lol.
