One hour and 40 minutes. My newest failure at a WILD

I lay on my back for an hour and about 40 minutes in a dim room with nothing but white noise playing. I pushed myself harder than ever to persist and several times I felt like I came close to full paralysis. No major feelings of having to move or hallucinations. This is very frustrating. I have read through lots of guides and have gotten almost nowhere.

One hour and 40 minutes isn't so bad. At first when I was learning WILD I didn't know doing WBTB helped out a lot (and I was a newb to boot). I would lay in my bed for up to 3 hours trying to WILD sometimes.

What it sounds like to me is that you are trying way too hard. WILDing should be exactly like you're normal routine for falling asleep, except you hold on to a sliver of consciousness. Usually this either lands you directly in a dream or just a single step away, in SP.

Also, how loud was the noise you had playing? It should be just loud enough that you can let it become a somewhat relaxing background noise so you can semi-focus on it to retain consciousness. Also, try and sleep in the darkest setting possible. The closer to pitch black, the better. There are two reasons for this: 1) your eyes detect light through your eyelids, preventing or slowing the production of melatonin by the pineal gland (a chemical that makes you sleepy and promotes dreaming) and 2) sensory deprivation causes your mind to try and fill in the blanks. You will get better hypnagogic imagery as a result (both auditory and visual).

Were you tired when you were trying? You should do it during a WBTB or a nap. Don't get disheartened if your first attempts fail, it's a pretty hard technique to master. If it doesn't work for you, try the other ones. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies guys. I played the white noise at a good volume (I actually thought it was raining outside) Ill wait until tonight to try once again. I also need to install my blackout shades. Looking forward to more attempts.

I've been trying to wild for about an hour a day give or take for a week or 2. Unique thing is each time i do it, it seems like i understand a bit more about the processes and feelings, its only a matter of time. Id just say pay attention to the feelings you get, what techs you try... etc.

I usually don't recommend it, but a sleeping pill might help
