      tips for falling asleep

does anyone have any tips for actually falling asleep? I've always had a hard time with that, it takes me an hour of slipping into my thoughts to sleep.

Now add in things like mantas which requires me to concentrate and focus on something and falling asleep seems to be impossible for me

Exercise during the day so that you get tired at night, 5pm is good. Or just run yourself out right before so you drop dead in bed.

Another good thing is to focus on your breathing, just gently. Observe it, but passively. You can also try and imagine yourself floating out of your bed, or sinking into it.

I like to sleep by imagining things, daydreaming I guess. Just place yourself, or characters if you want, in a place and continue on. Create a story. Have something happen like a movie or a book that you need to solve. Soon you'll become lost in it and fall asleep. It makes falling asleep fun. I used to think everyone done that until I spoke to friends about it.

Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning. Make sure you don't sleep in.

Remember to relax. Most of the time, if you're lying in bed thinking "God I just can't sleep. I really need to sleep. Just sleep already!" it'll just make you more awake.

If you've been lying in bed for 20 minutes or longer, and you still feel awake, it means you're restless. Sit up, read a book for a little while, maybe get up and get a drink.

Don't watch tv or your laptop, phone etc an hour before bed, because the images stimulates your brain, stops you from producing meletonin and makes it harder to sleep. And then, when you go to sleep, you aren't sleeping deeply enough and getting proper rest.

Also, if you drink caffine, like coffee or coke, you might want to cut that out. It's just plain bad for you.

Hope that helps, it's all I can think of at the moment

Just try to let your thoughts flow, don't become too activly involved in them yet don't try and stop them from taking place. If you feel restless it can help to just stay very still, resist turning over. Often times you will find that when you just stay still you begin to get comfortable in your position. Turning over is like scratching an itch, it will just make it itch worse in some cases. If too much light is in the room make sure you keep your eyes shut.

      I feel your pain.

Well Raspberry pretty much covered everything
But working out during the day really helps, just do a quick jog or something
A warm glass of milk before bed helps too : )

      Lucid dream please!

What I usually do, is simply take a few deep breaths right before I want to fall asleep, just to get comfortable. Then, I close my eyes, and think about nothing. Now, after about 2 minutes, thoughts start appearing spontaneously in my mind, and at one point or another, I subconsciously begin to follow these plot lines. Next thing I know, when I'm following the little black girl to the Garden of Eden, I'm fast asleep. The point is, when you let your subconscious mind take over, you loose focus on reality and your body (along with your mind) shuts down completely, allowing you to go to sleep.

      ty everyone

what about mantras though? Luciddreamgod you mentioned letting your thoughts flow, but when you're trying to repeat a mantra in your head to help with lucid dreaming, you're forcing your thoughts. that's probably why i always end up feeling so awake after lying in bed for 20min repeating a manrta

it might be dangerous to physical health, but ive actually exhausted myself for a couple of days before actually falling asleep, this way, i can snap right into a sleep state, while focused on the dream. but i wouldnt recommend it if you have a demanding schedule, like school or work.

how does that help though? sure, the next couple days after you've been sleep deprived you'll sleep easier, but once your body's caught up, you'll be back at square one

Ive done this a lot too.. Ive noticed that if I stay up all night, the next night when I go to sleep, or even take a 1-2 hr nap, I will dream... When ever I try to do a WILD, I get pushed right into a LD. ...it is VERY difficult to actually stay awake, but the time it takes to WILD is like a fraction of that of how long it would take a regular one...

I find that just doing a load of pushups right before bed only tires your muscles. To be tired as in sleepy tired, you need to exhaust everything. That means being more active for longer during the day. Doing say 100 pushups spread out across the day will tire you out much better than 100 crammed in before bed time.

It's simple. Just be more active during the day. You don't have to go joining gyms, just try to do what you do everyday, but with more vigor. Like when you get up and eat your breakfast. Maybe stand up and hold the bowl and walk around while eating. Take the bike to work/school. When you normally have 15 minutes to yourself, try spending that time walking or running, etc.

Eat a heavy meal although thats probably not healthy before bed, but u could learn to meditate, it would help u relax and drift off to sleep. namaste.

When you are aware, what your mind expresses is creativity. It creates your life.
When you are in a higher state of consciousness, it not only creates the life of whatever you want, but also on whom ever you want". -LifeBlissFoundation

Really hot baths, (Not healthy though) will tire you out. But don't use them too much, they strain your heart.
