      Currently exiled from the Dreamworld

      Hi all,

I've been studying meditation for years and I'm currently living in Asia. I've found myself some pretty good teachers, but I can't get out of my body yet.

I think I've been to the astral before, consciously, in another life. Looking forward to getting there again.

      Peace on Earth

Erm..hope you don't mind me asking. I've got this question which I don't understand for quite a while. How is Meditation linked to LD?
      Goals:
      1. Attacking my enemies instead of running away from them~ Ultimately taking control of my dream situation.
      2. Remember that I can always summon a shield around me to protect myself in dreams. No need to fear!

Lol, you crazy man! There ain't no such thing as the astral plane! You best be crazy!

I'm kidding. Not many people here focus on the meditation aspect over the lucid dreaming aspect, I think you might get some people into it if you spread it around a bit.

      Hey Shinice,

I don't think they're directly linked, but meditation might help still the mind and focus your thoughts. I'm sure there are a lot of lucid dreamers that have had LD success without doing meditation. If they can do that, good for them.

Secondly, in Asia, I know a lot of practitioners do lucid dreaming sitting up. They just sit there with the spine straight and eventually the body goes rigid. I've seen them do it right in front of me. On the plus side, you get many 'tries' in a single session, because you never just zonk out and fall asleep. On the minus side, it's a bit harder to relax. So there's a crossover there between lucid dreaming and meditation.

My teachers taught everything; meditation, lucid dreaming and more. I just don't tend to say "I have a lucid dreaming teacher" cos you sound like a nutball. I'm still in the beginning stages though. I've been meditating for ages but it hasn't helped my dreaming much.

Last, some teachers insist on a period of cleansing before you start LD practices, so you are balanced when you visit the astral. This cleansing can be done through meditation.

Thanks Pieman. I reckon the creators of Family Guy are probably Lucid Dreamers. ha.

Orgami, nice to meet you... your goals look fun. I've had a bit of success with sitting up/LD practices. I wonder if anyone here does that....

My favourite meditation is Carlos Castanedas recapitulation.

Wow interesting..Sitting Up to meditation, then to lucid dream??? But I thought people aren't supposed to be thinking of something when meditating?

There's many different styles. Thinking of nothing, visualising, moving energy, clearing blocks, processing emotions, working with dream guides...

If people are having full on lucid dreams without meditation than good luck to them, I'm impressed. I can't do it yet.

Raphael, I do a short prayer where I invoke the 4 archangels (Raphael, Michael, Gabriel, Uriel) most days, it's a good meditation.

The only reason an experienced lucid dreamer might want to meditate would be to clean the soul more, and get access to different dreaming realms.

As I said, LDing from sitting is a crossover between meditation and dreaming, and has a few benefits.

So you mean visualizing while meditating can also be called as a form of Meditation?
What are the different types of Meditation?
And what are the difference on the effect it produces?

That question would take hundreds of pages to answer. Try a google search on the most interesting meditation for you...

Hi, welcome to DreamViews. There, I said it too.

From a more non-spiritual standpoint, meditation and lucid dreaming are more or less about controlling your own mind. That's not to say that there isn't anything spiritual about the two of them. At the moment, I'm open to spirituality/etc. but I haven't judged anything to be true so far. I'll need to explore more before I decide anything.

I'm dabbling in meditation, though I haven't been really committed to it.

I change my mind about the big picture quite often. I think the biggest truths are impossible to put into words. For me 'spirituality' is about simple things like cleansing the soul and balancing. I've always been more interested in techniques than beliefs.

I also haven't judged there to be any such thing as a soul/aura/whatever. Hopefully I can use lucid dreaming and all that rot to find out.

There is definetly something like an overlaying dimension. Or a way to have dream images project into the world while u are awake. Which have specific meaning and atleast allowed me to read emotions , thoughts of other people. Also i have seen light bodies of people with my eyes closed.

And telepathie is real it just works a little more complicated than reading thoughts. it's more like seeing what the other person means.

Its nice to hear that meditation teachers in Asia are teaching "lucid dreaming while sitting up". This practice is typically where ideas for Out of Body Experiences originate and it is good to know that OoBE's are synonymous with lucid dreaming with those types of teachers.

Sure, pretty much anything can be turned into a meditation, even fishing. Sounds? Mantras are popular, check out Imee Ooi on youtube.

I've read plenty of debates on the differences and similarities between OBEs and Lucid Dreaming, and heard all sorts of viewpoints. I haven't had much personal experience so I don't know what I think. I think to a certain extent its just different labels.

Asian teachers can be very vague with their definitions. They don't get too hung up on words...

To be honest with you, a lot of them did say it was about travelling out of the body... Others said dreaming.
