Question I'm not doing reality checks when I dream. Why?

      Hello.

I have been doing reality checks REGULARLY,however I never seem to actually do them when I dream. Only once have I actually done a reality check in a dream that I can recall, and that was when I asked if I was dreaming. My friend (who was floating in mid-air) told me I wasn't.

The three reality checks that I do are:

      -Finger through the hand.

      -Nose Pinch.

-Asking myself (in my mind) how I arrived where I am right at that time.

      Now to my questions.
Is it common to not be doing reality checks in dreams even when one does it often?
Should I be doing some other reality checks?
Do I need to do reality checks even MORE frequently?
Should I try some other LUCID technique?

      Thank You

Hi MrTash, the purpose of an RC is more to confirm that you're dreaming than to actually make you lucid.

Sometimes if you do RCs enough in real life, you'll end up doing them in your dreams, but this doesn't happen in all cases. Also, if you did end up doing them in dreams, you'd probably just do them as a motion and not really think them through. It's like when you wear a watch so often that it shows up in your dreams, since you're used to wearing it.

Doing other reality checks isn't something you need to do at this point, because the three you're using (especially the nose-plug) have high success rates. When you question how you got to where you are, how long do you do that for? If it's just a fleeting thought, you'll definitely benefit from thinking more thoroughly and really trying to reason out what you did beforehand. Look to see what's around you, feel the textures of objects, notice any smells in the air. Raise your consciousness for a moment and take in as much as you can from your surroundings.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

A thousand thanks. I appreciate the quick response. I actually don't put very much thought into how I came to a place, but from now on I will.
So there is not really much I can do with the reality checks? They are fine? Maybe I am just not interested enough. But I want to lucid dream,I want it bad. I will lay aside more time for it now.
Well anyway, thanks again. I will check out your guide.

Yep, reality checks are good, so keep doing them!
Mindset is important for attaining lucid dreams, so don't stress out and be confident in your abilities to have an LD. If you find yourself getting too focused and you start thinking of getting to your next LD as more of a chore than a hobby, just take a break for a few days and get back to it. Try relaxing and listening to some binaural beats, or daydream a little.

      Good luck!
