Unhappy I'm not waking up for my WBTBs anymore. (Help needed)

I cannot wake up at night any longer. It's weird -- I've had to start telling myself to do so but that isn't working. I've got a great 'alarm clock' (it's an mp3 file that I can re-edit and put on my mp3 player) and have IEMs that don't fall out of my ears throughout the entire night but they're not of any use anymore because I just don't wake up to do my WBTBs. I've had a few (as in 3) late nights but that's as of recent.

Did my REM stage change perhaps or is there something else going on? Should I edit my alarm to ring for a longer period of time?

I think I meant to title it differently.

I can change the title if you would like, what do you want it to be?

and everyones REM cycle changes, but much less if you have a steady sleep schedule. Try to keep it steady so its easier. Don't worry though don't set alarms for a few night or worry, to relax yourself. Drink a ton of water before bed, you will naturally wake up after REM to go to the bathroom

But isn't it harder to successfully do a WBTB and go back into REM if I get up to go to the bathroom? I drink tonnes of water anyway but don't feel the need to go to the bathroom in between periods of REM. I don't think it's bad I just think I have a "iron bladder" or something. I can drink 3, 4 ,5 tall glasses of water and I'll only feel it in the morning when I wake up. I go to bed at 10 PM on a normal night and meditate for 1-2 hours before I actually start attempting a WILD. I've attempted and succeeded in doing a FILD at bedtime but I have yet to be successful at a bedtime WILD. By the time I start attempting a technique I am extremely calm and relaxed (which is probably the reason why I haven't succeeded in bedtime WILDing).

More on this in a while.

it is not necessarily harder, it just depends how easy you can fall back to sleep.

and hmm well just try to set some alarms after a few hours, or try autosuggestion to wake you up

Mhm autosuggestion works. I wake up sometime between 4-5am in the morning and fall asleep again. Instant LD. Don't even need to try hard

what time do you go to bed? I try for 9:30PM I end up going to bed around 11PM. I'll work hard on auto-suggestion. I know it worked in the past. It just took a long time to seep in.

Alright, thanks. I've set my alarm for 3AM hope thats not too early or too late. I look forward to trying the alarm at this hour. Hope 4 hours will be enough time.

Thanks I've taken your advice. It seems to be work in progress and is getting along quite fine.

I'm still having trouble maintaining enough awareness in order to do a WBTB successfully

I'd suggest working on waking up naturally instead. Do you go to sleep at the same time every night? This is very important in my experience.

Your bedtime is up to you. Just try to get at least 5-6hrs of sleep before you wake up. Once you are awake (either from autosuggestion or alarm clock), stay up for 15-30mins thinking about lucid dreams (some ppl say you have to get out of bed, but I just stay in bed and visualise flying --> MILD) and drift back into sleep again.

      I had to. I'm sorry.
On a helpful note, I think he's got a regular sleep schedule established because his question was if his REM stage had perhaps changed which I don't know too much about how the sleep cycles change but you may want to try a different alarm clock, perhaps put a regular alarm clock at a out of arm's reach distance so it will eventually make you get up to go turn it off. Or you may be waking up and not realizing it because of how tired you are. I went through about a week of setting alarms at 4 am and thinking I didn't wake up to them but one morning i found that I had thrown my iPhone across the room because when it woke me up I was too tired to figure out how to turn it off.

      Wow,

In that case what you speak of could very well be a possibility I do remember waking up for my alarm this morning but fell back to sleep too quickly to actually attempt anything. My sleeping pattern is haywire though - my dad's on holiday and I'm trying to spend as much time with him as possible (within reason).

Edit: That is a great movie but heck it's disturbing.

I think the problem is that you need more dedication. Auto suggestion only works if you are motivated in a positive way. They thinking of lucid dreams associated with waking up. And think about how bad you want one.

You said that you have had a couple of late nights, maybe you are just to tired to wake up. If it's possible try to get to sleep earlier and sleep longer. (or at least or or the other)

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

I think you've hit it right on the nail. May be I am just not motivated enough and no longer have that intense feeling of dedication towards my goal of having a lucid dream.

I know I've done it once and it took months to get it right and it has been months since it happened, but are there any more drills I can do in order to build up and maintain a motivation and dedication?

I may have stumbled upon one just before I had my first lucid dream. It was auto-suggestion through writing. I don't know if this was truly what caused the success, but I know I stopped and since then everything has gone backwards.

Try drinking a lot of water, that should wake you up naturally.
