      Lightbulb gaining lucidity

Ok so i want to lucid dream, can i by doing this?
my idea is to get a digital watch then set it to go off every hour then when it beeps i look at the clock and say to myself what time it is. my reason is eventually that will become a daily routine so ill do it in my dreams but in my dreams i wont be able to tell what time it is . will this work so eventually i can lucid dream and if so how long will it take me to have a lucid dream.
p.s. i go to school so i thought that would be easiest way so i don't have to get up or do anything during class

If you are new, why not try some of the guides that are here already, that sort of follows the basic concept of all day awareness.

This may work out great for lucid dreaming but if you are anything like I am the watch will only temporarily incorporate into your dreams and then it will become such a habit that you won't notice it. I did this same thing with a gold ring I found by wearing it constantly and using it in reality checks; it showed up in my dreams for nearly a week because it was something new in my routine, but it became such a part of me that I soon didn't pay special attention to it in dreams because I was used to it. It also makes you rely on the watch to signal you that it is a dream which isn't going to happen every hour of a dream like it will in waking life.

As you will see after spending a good amount of time reading up and learning from this site (if you should choose to do so), one of the main things to be worked on, as Arch mentioned above, is awareness so that rather than hoping that you will spontaneously dream about the watch beeping and use it to RC you will be so aware of your surroundings that you will know it is a dream without requiring some special conditions be met. I have seen that several of our wonderful dream guides here agree with this saying that, depending on what lucid induction technique you use, the majority of lucid dreams begin with you already being suspicious that you are dreaming and then using the reality check to reinforce the idea.

I second Arch's advice to explore the tutorials and guides already here because they are pretty much guaranteed to work eventually considering how many people use them here on DV, but you should also try out the method you created yourself because it may very well work excellent for you. Some people lucid dream the first night they try when they know hardly anything more than what a lucid dream is.

Welcome to the Dreamviews forums, Dreamer.

Yeah, you don't really want to make it a habit. Like tehmuffinman said, it can end up becoming a normal part of your dreams, just as other habitual practices you do have also shown up in them. Awareness, or mindfulness, is a pretty big thing that you should work on, along with your RCing. RCs are pretty much a way to tell whether you're in a dream or not, and you usually do them after you become lucid. If you're in class and don't have much time to RC or be aware, maybe you'd consider having a read through my guide? It goes into detail on how I personally awareness and how to best use it to induce a lucid dream; it doesn't take more than a couple minutes every few hours, leaving plenty of time for school! It's located here.

If you have any questions about lucid dreaming, or how the forum works, please let me know and I'll be happy to help.~
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I think that if are not aware in your classes and think you don't need to be, it is very unlikely that you will become aware in your dreams. Lucidity and awareness in dreams will not likely come from gimmicks, if you cannot be aware in your awakened moments. The mind needs a trigger to become lucid, but the trigger comes from being able to be awake and aware and concentrate, not from a stopwatch. Also, I don't think it is all that good of an idea to disrupt normal sleeping patterns as it will probably just deprive you of healthy sleep time. That may provide hallucinations, but not lucidity. They are really opposites.

From my own experiences, I've never been "triggered" to become lucid in any other way than awareness itself.

I agree. It brings up a discussion point. How does awareness come into being, or is it just innate realization?

Until their body dies? And then what? Where does Lucid Dreaming appear (if at all) after a hundred years or so of the body?
