Hmmm... being controlled by subconscious in lucid dream???

I'm very very interested in lucid dreaming, but the only ones I've had so far have not been under my (complete) control, but rather my body was doing stuff on its own.
Is that what a normal LD is like? I thought I would be able to have my full, complete freedom to do what I want... sort of like in real life, only with no limitations.
I know that that kind of LD is for experienced people, but I thought I would at least have been able to be as conscious as I would be when I'm awake.

Yeah, control just takes time to master

      You'll get there though xD

So you're saying I will be able to attain that kind of consciousness, if I practice enough?
Yes! That's my main goal XD

My first Lucid Dream was like that. I intended it to be a WILD but after falling asleep on accident, I had a MILD. Somehow my logical thoughts were working just right to question reality and I did an RC. The only thing is that the dream was very unstable and it didn't feel as if I had complete control; in fact, it felt as if I were inebriated. Movements felt almost predetermined even though I was Lucid, and the vividness came in and faded out and my view.

Being 100% conscious, like you are when awake, can take a long, long time to master and may never fully happen. I'm not going to lie and say otherwise. Awareness in a dream tends to shy away from being turned completely on, so when starting out you may be at around a 60%, and make your way up to about 80%. My highest-level lucid was about a 95%.

These are just rough numbers based on my own personal experiences so take them with a grain of salt, but to me it seems like those numbers are true for many people.

Regarding dream control, lucidity doesn't automatically mean you'll be able to control your dreams, so only judge how lucid you were based on how mentally present you were. I've had some lucids where I was pretty aware but couldn't seem to control anything. If you're not as aware, you may act apathetically or carelessly, not fully realizing the fact that you're dreaming, but you still might exert control over things. If you're lucid you'll be able to think more clearly about what you want to control, but you could be creating tidal waves or doing other dream control stuff in a total non-lucid. Lucidity =/= control.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense. I'm a little bummed out, but still willing to do the work to get to 100% (or at least near 100% ) consciousness!

I think what you experienced was something I like to judge as a semi-lucid. You were aware that you were dreaming, but couldn't control it. That means you were kind of watching what was happening like a movie, but you knew you were dreaming. Therefore it is a lucid, so congrats! Now like the others said, read threads about dream control, and you will be on your way.

Just going to rephrase this a little bit. In a semi-lucid, you're usually not incapable of control, but you simply don't consider the idea that you could control the dream.

Do you think your dreams should be a certain way? If you do, they will be.

Which is to say don't expect your dreams to have some solid, clearly defined structure or set of rules. Your sub-conscious is a part of you, and believing that you are restricted by it will result in restrictions.

I've noticed that for me the best way to get that control/consciousness is to go to sleep with a very particular goal in mind. That way, as soon as I realize I am dreaming I think of that goal and everything else fades. All that is important to me is doing that goal, and it doesn't matter if King Kong had just been chasing me or whatever, I end up with a clean slate to start my lucid dream on. That way there are no other distractions...at least for a while.
