      Question First post, MANY questions.

Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I have only heard of "Lucid Dreaming" yesterday. I am VERY intrigued about it. I have many question that I need answered.

How long do these dreams last?

How long does it take to acquire this skill?

How many times can you do it a week?

      Is it hard?

I don't think I have any dreams. I go to sleep but then just wake up the next day. I don't recall having ANY dreams.

How do I remember my dreams?

Do you feel things during the dream? Like pain or pleasure

      Is it fun?

If I have any more question i'll will post them

Thank you if you take the time to answer

Hi there Timbo, there's so many more fellow Aussies joining lately!
      Welcome to Dreamviews
How long do these dreams last? They can last from milliseconds up to an hour. Science says dreams can only last for as long as you sleep, but there are fellow dreamers here that say you can dilute time, resulting in days, weeks, months, even years in a dream! I haven't tried this myself, but it's one of my dream tasks
How long does it take to acquire this skill? It varies from person to person. Some people have a lucid dream the very night they find out about lucid dreaming. Other can take longer. Myself, it took me one week of trying (two weeks after i found out about it.)
How many times can you do it a week? My record so far is 3/week. Technically you can do it everytime you dream, and if you get the recommended amount of sleep per night, that's about 6 dreams. So 6x7 = 42. 42 times! Actually, you can lucid dream more than that, say.. if you wake up prematurely and then DEILD (Dream exit induce lucid dream).
Is it hard? I don't reckon. As long as you're confident and dedicated, you'll be living out your fantasies in no time!
How do I remember my dreams? Dream recall. What I do is, once I wake up from a dream, I'll like there for up to 5 minutes, not thinking about anything. As if you were going to go back to sleep. This puts your brain in that.. level as if it wants to go back to sleep, bringing back from recall of the previous dream.
Do you feel things during the dream? Of course! Dreams are stimulated by your mind, but you'll be surprised how real your senses feel. However, everything is about expectancy. If you run your hand over a smooth surface and expect it to be bumpy, guess what? Bumpy it will be
Is it fun? HA. Imagine being locked in a playroom where you can play with anything you want, do anything you want, and be anything you want. Then put the scene into place. You can control anything. You're practically God in your own world!

      Many lucid dreams to you

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

My god that sounds amazing. I am very excited to do it. The problem is I don't really know where to start. I personally feel like I don't seem to have dreams. I know it sounds kinda stupid seeing how we all technically have dreams every time we sleep, But I haven't really had a dream for a very long time now. Also I have some more questions if you don't mind answering them

How long have you been doing it?

      Is it dangerous?

      Does it get easier?

      Does recalling dreams get easier?

When I start recalling my dreams easily, will I start to actually see these dreams? Like actually see the dreams? Like, not a lucid dream, but a normal one?

So yea thanks for the previous answers

That depends entirely on your ability to keep yourself stable within a dream. When I first started out, mine would typically last no longer than 5 minutes or so, but now I'm reaching at least 30 mins more frequently. Your REM periods also play a major part in this, as (generally speaking) you cannot dream without being in a state of REM. It is possible to have dreams in N-REM sleep but this doesn't happen a lot for the majority of people.

If you're unsure as to what I mean by ''REM'' and such, I shall briefly explain.

REM stands for ''Rapid Eye Movement'', which is where your eyes dart back and forth constantly and this is typically where dreams happen. REM periods usually occur every 90 mins and last for around 15 mins. The more sleep you get, the lighter your sleep becomes, and the closer your REM periods are.

That's hard to say as it depends entirely on the person. However, I guess it just relies on your ability to distinguish the difference between normal waking reality and sleeping reality, as this is the fundamental element to lucid dreaming. Those who can lucid dream naturally have already mastered this without knowing, but judging by your questions I'll assume you aren't one of the lucky ones (join the club ). Have no fear, for anybody can easily master the art of lucid dreaming; it just takes time and dedication.

In theory, the number is limitless. Every time you have a dream you have a chance to become lucid, and you have around 4-6 dreams a night - so that's around 35 chances a week to become lucid.

Again, this is hard to say. Some people find it extremely easy while others experience the opposite. You may have a knack for this, but if you don't: Do not let it deter you from your goal. Motivation and belief in yourself is key, and anybody can lucid dream to the maximum capability if they push themselves hard enough.

You always dream. Typically, you have around 4-6 dreams a night, however it seems you simply can't remember them. There are ways to fix this, such as keeping a dream journal; something which is very important when it comes to the lucid dreaming field.

Start keeping a dream journal. At first it may be hard to motivate yourself, but it's just a trick your brain plays on you. Every time you wake up take 5 or so minutes to try and remember any dreams you've had. You probably won't remember very much to begin with (if anything at all), but always write something down. Even if you have no recollection of any of your dreams, write that down. It will get your brain used to wanting to write something down once you wake up, which helps considerably.

You feel everything you experience in waking reality. All 5 senses are at your disposal, and even if you've never experienced something before your brain is very advanced and can generate how it thinks it should feel to a very exceptional standard.

YES. The possibilities are endless; you can do absolutely anything you desire. The only limitation is your ability to be creative.

Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions or would like to know more about what I've already mentioned.

I've been doing it since feb/march time. I spent around a month doing solid research into sleeping and dreaming and then put everything I had learned into action. Within the last month I feel I have been making serious progress.

No. There is no danger involved at all, as everything you experience within a dream doesn't actually exist; it's just a figment of your imagination in a very complex form.

Yes, and I can testify of this 100%. When I first started out I rarely had lucids, but these days I have at least 2 every week (it's usually more as I chain lucids using the DEILD method).

Again, yes. At first you won't remember much, but give it some time and you'll be remembering 2-3 dreams a night (or more) with amazing detail!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Do you mean: will you remember non-lucid dreams as clear as lucid dreams?

How long do these dreams last?
LDs may last up to 45 minutes, but my LDs don't last longer than 5 minutes and they are usually shorter than 2 minutes.
How long does it take to acquire this skill?
After a week of being interested in LD, I had a first dream, where I realized I was dreaming and I woke up immediately. After a month approximately, I had my first LD.
How many times can you do it a week?
I have 1 LD per week averagely.
      Is it hard?
      It depends....
I don't think I have any dreams. I go to sleep but then just wake up the next day. I don't recall having ANY dreams.
Everybody dreams at night. Improve your dream recall.
How do I remember my dreams?
When you wake up, stay still in your bed and think about your dreams. Then write them down. Also try Pyridoxine (vitamine B6) before bed, it improves some people's dream recall.
Do you feel things during the dream? Like pain or pleasure
      Yes, I do.
      Is it fun?
Yes, it is one of the best thing ever!

Like you said, we dream everytime we sleep You're just not remembering them, no at all, i don't mind!

How long have you been doing it? Since my join date
Is it dangerous? It is dangerous sleeping?
      Does it get easier? Absolutely!
Does recalling dreams get easier? YES. Dream recall gets so much easier once you make an effort to do it. Start with a dream journal. Mine is a A4-sized book within arm's reach. Do you wake up naturally throughout the night? If you do, excellent, that should make your dream recall easier already. If you don't, drink a big glass of water just before you go to sleep. Once you wake up, as i said in my previous answer, just lay there as if you were going to sleep, once a fragment of a dream is recalled, roll over and start writing. Work with what you remember initially and work forwards or backwards, depending on part of the dream your fragment is from. If you feel something happened before what you remember, try and work backwards with what you had.
When I start recalling my dreams easily, will I start to actually see these dreams? Like actually see the dreams? Like, not a lucid dream, but a normal one? Hell yeah. Believe me, once your recall gets good, you'll be ALMOST as excited to dream normally as lucid dreaming. You'll discover a whole new world your subconscious makes up. Zombie dreams, fantasy dreams, weird dreams, funny dreams. It's like free entertainment, if you will

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

Hi, Timbo! Welcome to Dreamviews! By the way you DO have dreams everynight, you're just not remembering them. Check out this dream recall tutorial to learn how to start remembering them.

I'm not really sure what you mean like this. As you practice recall you will start to remember more and more little details of the dream.

Hey sorry to revive this thread but I have another question that I would love to be answered.

How do I know if I remembered a dream or if I was only thinking of it?

Kind of a confusing question but basically I THINK I remembered a dream this morning. Basically I woke up and tried not to move. I starting thinking in my head "What was I dreaming about" And then I started to remember a little bit. I was in a first person style vision, and was looking up at a ramp. On the ramp were some barrels that were rolling down. I also remember sweating in the dream.. I don't know why. Also It was not a real life scenario, I was in a counter strike source style custom map. I can't show you because I cannot post links, But it was a orange/grey map style scenario.

So is this a dream or I was just thinking about it. Personally I feel it's a dream because why the hell would I think about that when just waking up. Oh and this is my second attempt at trying to remember a dream. My first attempt failed, which was yesterday.

Yes, this is most likely a dream. Unless you were thinking about sweating in a cs:s map

It sounds like it was a dream, but only you can really know. Just keep working on your recall and I promise you it will get better! Good luck
