      My First Lucid Dream

well this happened a few months ago. i have just moved to north carolina from hollywood florida. i had been wanting to lucid dream for a while now and my friend had told me a few things to do so i could do it. he told me to look at my hands alot and to turn on and off all lights because lights dont work in a dream. but let me get started on the dream. i was at the local skate park just sitting down with some friends. we were just sitting there, laughing about nothing. there were also a few girls that NEVER go to that park. also, i was in florida. we were just sitting there then it hit me. "why am i in florida? didn't i just move to north carolina? am i dreaming?" then i looked at my hands. they looked really wierd. plus as i was doing all this everyone was just looking at me, with no experssion on thier faces. then i wanted to see if i could turn on a light switch. i dont know how but i was suddenly inside a place i have never been before. the lights wouldn't work. i was so happy that i was finally in a lucid dream!! i could feel myself getting too excited. then i started running. and i mean i started running really really fast. like superpower fast. then i woke up with a huge smile on my face. i would really like to lucid dream again. i am 16 years old. anyone have any tips because i really want to (:

      Hi Earl, welcome do DV!

Congrats on you first lucid dream. What you had was a DILD (lucid dream that starts as a regular dream). You can get more of DILDs by technique called MILD. It's basically when in waking life you do reality checks (one of the most helpful RCs is looking at your hands, as you did) and you keep repeating a mantra.

Read up on this and other techniques, also about how to stabilize to have a longer dream, in DV Wiki tutorials.

One of the most important things for a lucid dreamer is to have good dream recall (to remember your dreams). Starting a dream journal (there is a feature for that on DV) will help you with your dream recall.

      So have fun!

to DV! This is great place to sharpen your LDing skills. I would recommend looking in the Wiki section of this site to learn some great techniques.

Your first lucid dream? Congratulations!!! I haven't had many lucid dreams, but I remember the first experience being absolutely amazing. I haven't learned dream control yet, so in all of my lucid dreams I would get the uncontrollable urge to just FLY, soar up in the clouds (the equivalent to you running superpower fast). I'm just starting to work on lucid induction techniques and reality checks now, but if you haven't already, I would suggest keeping a dream journal religiously--write anything anything anything you can remember, until you reach the point where most nights you have more than 1 dream. Then reality checks during the waking hours, to train your brain.

      Good luck!!!

Congrats I'm 16 as well, still working on my first true lucid dream as I just began journalizing my dreams a couple weeks ago... last night was the best night yet I remembered 2 vivid dreams when I woke and journalized and analyzed them right away... in one I was having an airsoft war on a grassy hill but it was too realistic to notice that it was a dream (plus I was really focussed on shooting my friends with plastic bbs) the next one consisted of confronting my older brother about my mom giving him his christmas gift early. In these I had control over myself but I couldn't reach that "Eureka!" moment. Any advice from anyone?

just keep on writing in your journal and keep RCing. If you trying to get lucid by method called MILD, throw some mantras in the mix. Check out DV Wiki for some tutorials.
Please ask, if you need more help.

      Welcome and have fun.
