Question Hey! Can't tell if I had a Lucid dream or not...

In my dream, at first, it wasn't really vivid at all. Then I remember saying to myself in my dream that it was a lucid dream, but I can't remember how I found out that it was a dream; like if I did a reality check or not. After that, the whole rest of the dream was clear and when I woke up I could remember every detail of it. I ended up making myself fly and I remember how it felt and everything! I also could like turn candle fires on and off by just pointing at them. However, in my dream I like woke up and saw my mom and told her that I had a lucid dream. I woke up, in real life, to my mom calling me and then I was completely confused as to if I actually had a lucid dream or not! I don't remember controlling anything in my dream other then flying or lighting candles, but it felt pretty real. Just the fact that I told my mom in my dream that I had dreamt was so confusing to me because its like I had a lucid dream in a dream. So im not sure if it was an actual lucid dream or if I just had a dream..that I had a lucid dream. Im not sure if that makes any sense but im so confused! LOL. Did I have a lucid dream or not?

Control is not required for lucidity. If you knew it was a dream, you were lucid. There seems to be a spectrum of lucidity. Sometimes we will know it is a dream, but not fully understand the ramifications. Other times, we will feel fully lucid and engaged, but later realize we were still playing a role in the dream narrative. It is rare to have a dream where you feel fully in control of yourself, with the full capacity to reason, and access your real memories.

It is confusing, but this is exactly what is so fun to explore Our sense of "self" is amazingly flexible.
