Smile Intro + Seeking of Advice

Hello, I'm kind of new to Lucid dreaming. I've only ever lucid dreamt once. The fact that it only happened once and that it was a short experience only makes me more interested in it. I have a dream journal which I have to remember to write in more often when I wake up. I can deal with the patience but would like to at least attempt a WILD lucid dream because they can happen much more often than DILD's if you decide to perform them.
The problem is, I cannot see myself laying completely still for over a minute, I would be too tempted to open my eyes, swallow, itch, etc. I'm pretty much looking for an easy WILD variation or any method that would not require putting myself in that position.

That's that though, and this is what my first lucid dream went like: I was in this dark kind of void with someone else, I think it may have been a female, we were jumping onto different platforms/boxes randomly, it seemed like a puzzle from a game. I got to the 'end', which was a door, I opened it and saw the front of my house, it was a pretty detailed view, mailbox, car, driveway, front-yard garden, everything, but there were also men standing around with guns facing me. Apart from there being much detail, it seemed off a bit, it didn't feel completely like the front of my house, and I think that's what triggered lucidity, considering I know the front of my house pretty well. The 'soldiers' disappeared, I turned, and so did the partner I was with. I had very mixed feelings when it became lucid, I was very excited, and scared at the same time, and that is a bad combination in lucid dreams. Anyway I jumped down, turned right and ran across my driveway, turned right again and was running in the grass along the side of my house. The grass is what really got me in this dream, it seemed very beautiful in a weird way, it was like it was too realistic. Anyway I got in my backyard and was facing a street in my neighborhood. I closed my eyes and convinced myself that when I would open them, I would have been teleported onto the street. But instead, I woke up.
Edit: Although I put a lot of writing into this, after I gained lucidity the dream only lasted about 10 seconds.

      Thanks for reading!

Hey there Aeolus! Congrats on your first lucid dream! This is a great place to go for information on lucid dreaming! If you can't find any info on what you want to know just post a thread about it, and someone will answer, this is a very kind and active community!

The problem is, I cannot see myself laying completely still for over a minute, I would be too tempted to open my eyes, swallow, itch, etc. I'm pretty much looking for an easy WILD variation or any method that would not require putting myself in that position
WILD is a hard thing for new lucid dreamers to try, but a great guide by KingYoshi is here; KingYoshi has a couple really good guides that help you on your way! You should check them out!

I closed my eyes and convinced myself that when I would open them, I would have been teleported onto the street. But instead, I woke up.
Yeah, that happens to me every time I close my eyes, too. Some people say that spinning or going through doors are good methods for teleporting!

Well, I hope you make lots of friends here at DV, and you learn to have lucid dreams often!
Oh, and by the way, I sent you a friend request!
You can ask me any questions if you have any!

      Welcome to DreamViews!

      <<<waves at you

Congratulations on your first lucid dream. It was a neat experience, right? Bet you never look at your grass the same again.

I thought it would be hard to lay still for a minute or longer like you mention, until I started taking naps in a reclined position. I sometimes come home after taking my daughter to school and go back to sleep in a living room chair with a pillow propping my head up. This is when I have some of my most vivid dreams, and sitting in that position helped me with sleep paralysis and all sorts of nifty feelings.

I'm not saying this is the right thing for you, but try experimenting with sleep positions, and locations. Even different times for naps or sleeping can make for some incredible experiences.

Good luck, and let us know if you have more incredible and overly realistic dreams!

Aeolus - Hi there! New here too. Very cool LD. I know what you mean that something 'triggers' the lucidity. I've had similar "aha" moments while dreaming that focus my attention and bring me into consciousness during my dream. Nice to meet you.

      Hi Aeolus

      1. I wouldn't say that you can have more WILDs that DILDs, unless someone is a master at WILDing. One reason is exactly because you have to be still and that's not allways easy to do. But there is so many other variables, that make every WILD attempt different that the other, so you have to go through lots of attempts to experience all possible scenarios. But there is nothing wrong with trying it out What you can do, is practice technique called MILD for dreams called DILDs. Then get up for a WBTB (wake back to bed), try a WILD and it it doesn't work out, you have a great chance for a DILD, both because of practicing MILD and WBTB.

      2. First LDs are usually short. Mostly because of the incredible excitement the realization brings. Once you have more of them, you will learn to control the excitement. Stabilizing the dream will make it longer most of the time. You can find tutorials about this in DV Wiki.

Closing your eyes in LD is not recommended, as it will wake you up. Spinning will also either wake you up or transport you to another place, so try at your own risk Rubbing your hands is one of the methods you can try.

Post any more questions you have. Happy dreams
