Dream Tally (Also my first post ever on DV :)

      Hello DV community.
I have been LD'ing for just over 1 month now, sadly with no success.. YET! however its not getting me down and enthusiasm remains higher than ever! Mainly thanks to DV Forums.

One thing which i am trying at the moment is producing a Dream Tally. (Something no one has really mentioned on DV yet)

Im using quite a large A4 writing book for my dream journal: at the front go my dream recalls and at the back i have produced a tally chart. This is to count the number of times certain activities happen in my dreams. for example in my first month of dream recalling i have:

      Killed Someone: 12
      Met someone famous: 4
Witnessed blood Gore Death Suicide: 5
Driven a vehicle uncontrollably or crashed: 5
      Met with old friends: 3
      Cheated on my girlfriend: 6
Been chased or hunted by someone / something: 2

      etc...

Not only do i now have a list of dream signs, i can put them into priority order and look for the most common reoccurring DreamSign.

so next time i find myself Killing someone famous with my car whilst cheating on my girlfriend... i know i must be dreaming

**Thread moved to the Introduction Zone**

      Welcome to the forum!

That's a good technique. Some people do a similar thing in the Beginners course in the DreamViews Academy. You can look over some of the workbooks here: Intro Class (OpheliaBlue, RareCola, CanisLucidus, Chimpertainment, Xanous)

The nice thing about the workbooks there is you can get feedback on your recurring dream themes and elements.

Take a look at the class curriculum and see if you would like to join up. I took the class, helped me get back on task and forced me to keep up with my DJ.

If you have any forum questions staff is here to help!

      Pleasant dreams!

That is a cool idea. I like to go through my journals and highlight recurring dreamsigns. Keeping a tally is an even better way to do it. I always see people coming up with dream journaling software that can chart these things for you. Are any of those programs any good?

I cant say. I think id much prefer to use my tally table at the back of my DJ because of ease of access. Also i can keep adding to my list each morning if something new happens in my dreams.
I was playing professional soccer in my dream last night, realy vivid but not lucid
I have added "being a pro sportsman" to my list now!

      Hey Benjo!

That is indeed a great idea! I also do something similar where every month, I dedicate a page of my dream journal in which I write my dream signs (which I figure out by evaluating the previous month's entries). In that page, I also put my lucid goals for the month as well as other notes I want to remember like the technique I'm focusing on at that time. Then at the back of that page, I do a tally. But not for my dream signs though. I do a tally for the number of dreams I recall everyday, so basically it's a chart with squares for each date, and the number of dreams I recalled that day, and I fill it up everyday for the whole month. It also helps me keep track of the trend of my dream recall

If you have any questions, ask away! Like mel said, we're here to help :3

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

I like the idea of monitoring the trend of dream recall quantity. I have noticed some nights i have upto 4 DR's some nights i have just the 1 long vivid DR and sometimes i have nothing at all. I was wondering the other day if there was a daily pattern emerging to this... Ill be monitoring this in a seperate tally now, good idea!

It just occurred to me that an app on a phone that would remind you to add a dream journal entry when you move the phone in the morning (for people like me that keep the phone by their bed) would be a great way to not forget to update a dream journal. Has anyone seen an app that does this?
