      Any old-timers still around?

And by old-timers, I mean "anyone from 2005-2006 or so." I was fairly active around DV back then, but grad school, relationship/marriage, career, and a number of cross-country moves intervened in the interim.

After focusing for 5 or 6 years on what I thought I was "supposed to do" with my life and making myself thoroughly miserable in the process, I had a bit of an epiphany -- a mental and emotional slap in the face, really -- and realized that that since misery and happiness are choices, I was going to choose to focus on the things that have always brought me a sense of joy and peace and mystery. So, long story short, I came back to DV.

The personal, get-to-know-you info: I've had vivid dreams all my life, with LDs interspersed occasionally (more frequently when I'm focused on having them, which is no surprise to anyone here). I've been fascinated by dreams, the insight they offer into the mind, and the hints they offer about the underlying nature of the waking world since I was a child, and I'm honestly shocked and horrified about how far I've let myself slip away from nurturing that interest and that outlet for the past several years. I'm eager to re-focus and re-immerse.

I'm a scientist by education (degrees in physics and atmospheric science) and an educator and communicator by profession. I love adventure of almost any sort, especially travel and what usually qualifies as "extreme sports". If I can manage to do in real life what most people content themselves only to do in their dreams, I'm happy.

I love discussing science, philosophy, dreams, the underlying "nature of reality", and just about anything else that isn't pop culture or professional sports.

To any old friends out there: Hello -- I'd love to get back in touch, and I'm sorry for the disappearing act.

To any new friends: Hi, my name is Peregrine...

Wow! So nice to see people come back, and especially after such a long time. Welcome! I guess once an LDer, allways an LDer.

I'm a noob by your standards, but check out the Lounge. You may recognize some names there.

      Happy dreams

I also love discussing philosophy, science, and especially the underlying nature of reality! I guess I'll see you around.

Welcome back! It's awesome to see old members who are as old as you (I hope that didn't come off as rude) come back to DV, I wished I joined the site earlier because DV seemed to have such a tight community back then. OpheliaBlue is one member who not too long ago came back and she came and took us all by surprise. She's now the on-topic admin and has been awesome at helping out and running the site ever since she said "hi" again.

      Keep on dreaming!

That's awesome - I remember Ophelia! I'm glad she found her way back, too.

And it really was a tight-knit group back then. People came and went, as they always do, but there was a core group who really got to know each other and support each other as friends. I even met up with one fellow DV member when travel for school took me to his hometown.

I must admit that I find "internet time" amusing. I wasn't sure what to title this thread when I created it, but after seeing that most members joined after 2010, I realized that with 2004 in my profile, I'm old indeed! (Well, digitally speaking, anyway.)

Thank you for the warm greetings, and I look forward to lively and enlightening discussions with each of you

2007. I was mostly active in the journal section of the forums. Have not been posting so much since they decided to um, cancel them/change them. Now I just keep a journal on another site. But I still come around and read through some threads sometimes, and post occasionally if I'm feeling talkative.

The same thing kind of happened to me with dreaming. I'm 41 now, started actively Lucid Dreaming in the 80's. Got older and life got in the way for a while. Once life settled down I started thinking about dreaming again and how much I missed it. So started getting more seriously back into it in 2005-2006. I came across this site while browsing the internet on a family members computer.
