Hello, dreamers! Skeptic turned believer :)

Just a brief hello! Never thought in a million years I would make an account on a Lucid Dreaming website, yet here I am! My friend recently told me about this phenomenon and after extensive research and lurking, I've decided to step into the light! I never have believed much in supernatural or inexplainable things, which at first I thought lucid dreaming was, but after my research it seems like a real and attainable goal!

Been trying for my first lucid dream for three nights now. Im using Binaurals to meditate during the day, and lucid dream binaurals before bed.. I reality check as much as I remember to, and I use the MILD and WBTB techniques. Oh and I have begun writing my dreams! They are already much more vivid.

So here I am! Looking to meet people and get some guidance/ motivation to keep at it!

How long did your first lucid take?

Your intro reminds me quite a bit of my own, a couple treads down.

I actually just started my own 1 week challenge, so I've been trying for an LD for only a night now (as I write this at 4:50 in the morning). The only thing I'm doing differently is the exclusion of binaural beats. For some reason they really freak me out. Funny, because I want to believe and am fascinated by some of the more stranger things in the lucid dreaming world, i.e. OBEs, the Astral Plane, interconnected dreams, etc.

Anyways, I'll be subbing to this thread to see how you do! I'll be expecting a post when you finally get your first LD.

Thanks a bunch! Good to see that there are others out there like me! What exactly is this one week challenge? Getting an LD in your first week? Cause challenge accepted

My dreams have been much more vivid already, so I'm hoping it will come soon. Binaurals scared the crap out of me at first. I was afraid of sleep paralysis, or Hypo Hallucinations, but I've gotten used to them. I love it for meditation but I may not use it tonight. I find it very hard to sleep afterwards.

Thanks for the interest, I'll be sure to follow your thread as well!

Hey RavenOfShadow, glad to have you onboard!

I never have believed much in supernatural or inexplainable things, which at first I thought lucid dreaming was, but after my research it seems like a real and attainable goal!
Indeed it is, there really isn't anything supernatural about it. If you didn't happen to stumble upon Stephen LaBerge, pHD, during your research (which is a tad hard as he has been one of the leading researchers on the subject of Lucid Dreaming), I'd definitely recommend that you get a hold of one of his books, specifically:
      http://www.amazon.co.uk/Exploring-Wo...Lucid+dreaming

It is a very good resource for learning about sleep, dreams and lucid dreams, and a very valuable resource for getting started with attaining lucid dreams You really can't go wrong with the book, and it'll give you some great perspectives. It is a practical book which guides you on how to get started, as well as techniques to attain lucid dreams with. He also describes some of the research and experiments he has done with lucid dreaming at Harvard University, including how it is possible to read eye movements in sleeping subjects on a polygraph. From here you can then agree with the subjects on a pre-determined eye movement pattern which they should carry out during their lucid dream, which you can then read directly off the polygraph. You can read about this in a free article by Stephen LaBerge here:
      Psychophysiology of Lucid Dreaming

How long did your first lucid take?
Well, after I first stumbled upon the subject I got so surprised and fascinated by the phenomenon that my motivation just went through the roof It was during a summer holiday, so I did not have any obligations as such, which meant that I could think, read and prepare myself for it every single day. After about a week I had my first lucid dream, and it's still the one I remember most vividly as having a big impact on me.

Unfortunately I've had a long period now of not practicing it, but I'm trying to get back into it. It's such a wonderful and fascinating thing, and all I can tell you is to keep at it and you'll be hugely rewarded. It really is the kind of experience you thought should not be possible in our world, yet it is.

      Good luck with the dreaming!

Welcome to Dreamviews and good luck man.

Even after much research and reading here on Dreamviews I still wasn't convinced at first that everyone wasn't just telling stories on the internet to impress each other -- but one night I spontaneously had a Lucid and knew that I was wrong. If I can do it while harboring doubts, i'm sure anyone can.

After that first accidental lucid it took me a few weeks to get my next one, don't get discouraged and just stick with it. Your hard work will will pay off in the end.

The book that SomeDreamer recommended is awesome, full of great information.
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

      Hello.

Good to find another minion believer! Make sure to check out http://www.dreamviews.com/introducti...-dreaming.html if you haven't yet. It contains basic info and links to recommended tutorials around the forum.

      For motivation and ideas: http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...cid-dream.html

Oh btw, we have "Tasks of the Month" and "Tasks of the Year" where you earn badges and other special thingies when you achieve them. Link: Task of the Month

Good that you're working on your recall already. Cool how we just seem to remember the more we try to, huh? It's like a whole different world

Btw, you can check out DV Academy if you're interested in joining a class (I recommend the intro class). It's free and you get to track your progress in a workbook whenever you feel like it. You also get personalized feedback and advice from the teachers, apprentices and other students. Just a thought.

If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask or send a message! Good luck.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

I know you said you do believe now, but I just have to mention that it's not supernatural or unexplainable, science has proven that it's real and even explained some of how it works (but not much yet).

It took me a couple months, but I was like you at first and didn't completely believe it was real. Then when I saw all the scientific evidence, I became obsessed with lucid dreams and researched it a lot and spent hours every day trying to find the best techniques. Nothing happened. Finally, I almost gave up, and just looked at DV for a few minutes every day, and had an LD without even trying. So I just want to warn you not to spend too much time thinking about it and don't put too much pressure on yourself (e.g. "I have to have a lucid dream tonight!"). It will happen eventually.

Keep writing your dreams, that helps a lot. Also, click on the link in my signature. It's the easiest way I've found to have lucid dreams. I've only had one normal WILD and about 10 DILDs, so I'm not exactly a master of lucid dreaming, but I've had a couple dozen NREM WILDs because they are easy and you can do it at any time (you don't need to wake up in the middle of the night).

Another thing to consider is when to control your dreams. My favorite and most memorable LD was one that I just watched. I didn't waste lucidity because honestly it probably would have been a nightmare if I wasn't lucid, but because I knew it wasn't real I could just watch my mind create a bizarre and surreal world out of nothing but the music I was listening to.

Hey bud! Just saw you comment on the other one where I got yelled at for referencing another LD website :/. But I know its not supernatural, thats why I said "at first I thought it was. Before I had done any research or anything! But yes I'm quite obsessed with it... I actually sound just like you. I'm not getting frustrated yet, but im only on day 4. Id say I am putting a lot of pressure on myself though... So thanks for the tips!

Really good point about when to take control. I had my first semi-lucid the other night, and as soon as I got excited and hell bent on controlling it - poof. Gone. Its such a tease, but I have to remind myself that I have years to perfect it. I will definitely just passively watch my next one, and marvel at my minds creation!

Tonight I'm just going to try a WILD while listening to binaurals - and a program that monitors my sleep patterns. Wish me luck, and thanks for commenting!

      Hey! Welcome to DV!

It took me one day the first time. I forgot about it for a year and then when I tried again it took 45 days.

I wouod recommend exploring the world of lucid dreams by stephen laberge as your next step, it is the best.
