Hello, a bit of a newbie here...

Hello people of Dreamviews! I've been lurking around sites about Lucid Dreaming lately and the things I've read about lucid dreaming is incredible. I'm trying my best to get into it. I've been experiment the WILD technique (it's the only one I can really get into) but I haven't had that much of a success with it. I'll point out the problems.
      • I've had moments where I start twitching and my back or my knees feels desperate to rise up? Has anyone experienced that?
      • I do the entire WBTB idea with WILD but the problem is I can't relax and then I can't get myself back to sleep, I just feel more awake. I can practice WILD in the afternoon when I'm feeling tired but from what I've read that's not necessarily the time to do it?
      • When I'm about 10 minutes in WILD I see a bright flash infront of my eyes? When this happens my heart starts racing like mad, my eyes are moving around like crazy and I give up. Any idea how I can resolve this?

I began writing in my dream journal ever since July the 1st 2013 to July the 12th 2013, I stopped writing due to the lack of motivation but I've started all over again because I'm seriously curious about it ever since I started reading about it online. I started writing again in my dream journal on the 11th of August.
I do own galantamine, choline, melatonin and vitamin B6 and they never seem to increase the vividness for me. I think the closest I've ever been to achieving a sort of lucidity was on the 14th of August, it wasn't as detailed or as vivid as many people describe about their lucidity but I woke up an hour later feeling quite giddy, it was odd but I think I was getting there.

Hey Im new too, but I think I can help. Many times muscle twitches are a sign that the muscles are releasing tension and relaxing, so id just ignore those. As for the light it could be your entering the dream world, or just a hypnagogic hallucination maybe. Next time it happens open your eyes(if they arent already) and just look around. Honestly WILD is one of the hardest techniques for a beginner many have said, also the most tiring. Personally I would suggest you attempt DILD, its far more easier and you dont lose any sleep trying it. Oh yeah by the way whenever you feel an urge to move your body Ive heard from many people its your body sending signals to move to your mind to see if your awake and if you dont react to them you body falls asleep faster.

That sounds like you are starting to go into a meditative state? I meditate successfully all the time as part of my religion and one of the first signs that you are successfully entering one is different for everyone. Some peoples legs start to feel numb and heavy, others legs start to tingle in a positive way, and another way, what happens with me, is your legs start to feel light, like they want to float up into the sky. The farther you go your whole body will eventually feel this way, then when that's done you can start delving your mind into the meditation. When you try to enter a WILD do you completely relax your body? Muscle twitches are just what your muscles do when they release tension.

I do the entire WBTB idea with WILD but the problem is I can't relax and then I can't get myself back to sleep, I just feel more awake.
WILD is notoriously hard for beginners because you are keeping your mind in an aware, awake state while trying to dream. Beginners find it hard to find that balance between awake and dreaming. the state is a fine line, the single slightest waver in mind set will either push you back awake or delve you completely into a dream, then next thing you know you're waking up thinking "well crap..." What I tend to do is while I'm already sleeping I try to get to the point where I become aware of that I am dreaming then slowly start to wake myself up, then stop when I reach that point of a perfect WILD. It's easier then trying to bring yourself down into a dream from an awake state.

When I'm about 10 minutes in WILD I see a bright flash infront of my eyes? When this happens my heart starts racing like mad, my eyes are moving around like crazy and I give up. Any idea how I can resolve this?
The longest I have ever been able to keep myself in a WILD is probably about, hmmm, 20 minuets on average in real life, which feels like a couple hours in the WILD, before I loose it and wake up. You have to keep you're mind calm, when you freak out or get too excited you are guaranteed to loose it, but if you get too calm you will fall fully asleep. Like I said, you have to find that fine line. You are better off keeping completely calm yet aware, then when you feel yourself slipping into the dream, ever so slightly ease off back to the right point. It's better then keeping lightly calm then slipping into wakefullness and trying to bring yourself back down, most of the time you will just wake back up.

I hope my experiences have helped you and didn't confuse you any, let me know how the next attempt goes

      Great replies.

I've had a handful of Lucid Dreams, which have all come by either DILD or WBTB combined with Rhythm Napping.

I had tried to WILD before, but was just too inexperienced to complete it.

It's been 3 - 4 years since I stopped trying to have Lucid Dreams, and I'm looking to master it this time round, really dedicate myself.
Definitely won't be attempting a WILD until I get quite a few Lucid Dreams under my belt, and do well with the basic skills of Lucid Dreaming first.

      Maybe, go down that path?

If you're struggling with motivation, I would suggest at least get 1 Lucid Dream through an easier method. As soon as you get that 1 Lucid Dream, you will be hooked! and you will be a lot more motivated, trust me.

Best of luck with getting that first Lucid Dream. Let us know how you go
