Question Stopped remembering my dreams after a breakup-recent dream added

I hadn't been dating this guy for very long, but since he broke up with me, I've only partially remembered one dream in almost a month. I've tried lucid dreaming techniques, as well as mental confirmations such as, "I will remember my dreams." I've also put a quartz and an amethyst under my pillow, without much luck.

Any insight as to why I've stopped remembering my dreams, and how I can get it kickstarted again?

      Welcome to Dremviews!

Sometimes stress does that. Also, if you have changed your sleeping schedule. And recall fluctuates, sometimes for no apparent reasons. I'm sure it will be back in no time.

If you want to try using a dream journal, I can only recommend it. That is the best tool a (lucid)dreamer has. It not only helps you find dream signs, patters, but helps with recall and tells your mind, that having dreams and remembering them is appreciated. Happy dreams

I've never had much of a "schedule," let alone a "sleep schedule." My body's clock isn't normal. When I was younger and didn't work, I would sleep for 12 hours, be up for 20, sleep 16 hours, be up for 10, sleep for 10 hours, etc etc. I can sleep a lot, without having to get up to go to the restroom, get food, or drink anything. It's rather annoying, and I refuse to use any sleep aids apart from Melatonin or Valerian Root. Even though don't help me get to sleep, they just help me sleep, sometimes longer than normal.

After posting this last night before going to bed, I actually had a long dream off and on. When I woke up, I wrote down what I could remember, though my dreaming was off and on thanks to going to bed at 4 am, along with my phone going off multiple times. Being able to remember either had to do with not wearing my rose quartz necklace and/or seriously putting it out in the universe that I wanted to remember.

      Here's my dream:
Was going on a road trip with some other people, and I think there were 3 vehicles going. One had 3 or 4, another had 4 or 5, and one had just one guy. I started going with the bigger group, until I found out the one guy was alone. I also seem to remember hanging out with a bunch of people, and one guy was talking to me. I thought it was a friend of mine, but he didn’t look right, and the way he opened his mouth to talk was odd. Most of his teeth were partially missing.

I was at this house, and I don’t think the owner was there. I don’t remember much of it except for the “basement.” At first it looked like a small dark room without much in it, then I started looking around and seeing other rooms inside. One was a little girl’s room, and I laid in the bed. I look at the blanket, and see some dark brown bugs I’ve never seen before. I can’t tell if they’re alive or dead, they’re not really moving much. I look at my left hand and see a bunch of white spots. “It’s gotta be from the bugs, they’ve gotta be alive, but they’re barely moving…?” The white is pus, and I’ve got bites everywhere, but mostly my left hand. The bites pop open easily, and the pus oozes out. My mom seems to be there (I want to say I went to the bottom of the stairs and called up to her to come down), and I’m showing her the bites and the bugs, but she’s not sure either. A little while later, I’m either just looking at my arm, or I’m showing it to someone, and my arm is really red now.

I’m trying to find a shower to see about getting the pus washed away, and my mom shows me this tanning bed-looking thing upstairs. We’re trying to figure out how to turn it on and how I get in to clean myself. She says someone else used it earlier, and they came out looking freshly showered. The water seems to be shooting towards the top where the head would go, and it’s scalding hot. Some other people walk into the room chatting, and we all decide that the machine isn’t that safe.

I also seem to remember hanging out with some people, mostly guys, but I’m not sure who they were or what we were doing.

Quick edit: thank you for the reply, gab. I'll take a look at the link you posted.

      Welcome!

I find trying to clear your head and focusing on recalling emotions instead of details will make remembering details of dreams easier.

      Thanks, PalmDreamer.

Regarding emotions, this dream didn't seem to have a lot of emotion. Deciding to ride with the lone guy would've been out of sympathy, so he didn't have to ride alone. Seeing the bugs and the bites was curiosity, yet no fear as would be expected. The whole dream felt a bit detached.

As for recalling other dreams, I'll try. There are times when I wake up really sad, but I don't know why. Less times I'll wake up happy. Most of the time, I just wake up.

In addition when focusing on the emotions try to feel it again not just remember it but almost re-experience it. It helps a lot for me.
