      Dreaming questions beyond anything

Hi!! It's lovely to meet you!! So I don't really know where to start.. I have only recently realized that I lucid dream. I was describing a few of my dreams to someone (because I guess I thought they were "normal") and they said it sounded like lucid dreaming to them. I didn't really know what it was but had heard the term before so I decided to look it up. I realize that I do a lot of the things within lucid dreaming, I'm just not sure about the rest of it. I also have what I guess is Sleep Paralysis. It happens a lot and sometimes I can induce it when I'm lying down not sleeping. I never knew what it was or what it was called.

My experiences started when I was around 6 years old. I have dreams that are like reoccurring ones. They are either the same (which I have about 11 or 12 of those and I can list them sometime if anyone wants) The ones that aren't exactly the same take place in the same place/area as the reoccurring ones. Like, there is the same scenery and buildings but I do different things. Sometimes it will be various renditions to the previously reoccurring dream.

There is one dream I have every year, once a year for about 3 days since I was 7. I’m now 22. My dreams aren't always vivid and I go long periods of time where I don’t have any but when I do, they’re significant. They’re vivid and I can feel, taste, and have every sense within them almost as if I were living and breathing in it. Afterwards, I can play them back almost like a movie and each time I remember more things that were there. It’s like watching your favourite movie over again and realizing things you didn’t the first time around.

There is one dream I have every once in a while where there is a voice (never the person) talking to me. It’s always a male voice and it talks to me in my dreams. After I have enough nightmares (trust me I remember those too) I start not being able to sleep and being scared to do so. The voice comes back and gets exacerbated with me and re-trains me how to control my dreams. I go through a training period for a few nights. He teaches me how to change various parts in my dreams if I don’t like them, remove myself from a situation, change the landscape around me and recall older dreams that I’ve had even as a child. He will bring back landscapes and ask “remember this?” and it’s something that my subconscious has stored from a long time ago from a dream when I was younger. When I dream, I always know I’m dreaming. Not at first where I’m in character but once I am, half of my mind breaks away and I watch myself (even if it’s not ME) but I’m still myself and seeing everything from the 1st perspective. It’s difficult to explain.

I’m sorry this went on a lot longer than expected haha <3 Thank you for Listening! Dreams are the one thing I can really control and I love the dream world. I don’t like to control the dreams too much because I like to see what happens. I sit back a lot of times. There are only key points where I change things or make deliberate movements.

I guess I just don't know how much falls into lucid dreaming or what is dream control and I'm confused about my "training". I have memories going back as far as 3 years old. I know it wasn't anyone telling me about how to control my dreams and I never knew about it. So That part confuses me too.

Hello and congratulations. Firstly, sleep paralysis is an unfortunate disorder. What you are experiencing is HH (hypagogic hallucinations). quite a few lucid dreamers have their first as a child, due to reoccurring dreams (typically nightmares), so I'd say there isn't anything to be confused about, regarding your training. Now, lucidity is simply being aware its a dream, which you certainly seem to have. Dream control is exactly what it says: controlling dreams, which again, you seem to have, even if you don't always exercise it. No concrete idea what the voice is, but it might be your dream guide; a dream character that acts as a bridge between you and your subconscious, whose purpose is to, well, guide you. Perhaps I haven't been here long enough, but its quite surprising to have the dream guide find you and not vice versa, so I guess you're lucky.
