That technique sounds like FILD to me.

LIke GuitarShot100 said, you will have much better dream recall If you start dream journaling. Dream journaling will help on your way to lucidity but it's also good for remembering your regular dreams. When you wake up make sure to lie still for a minute while you try to recall your dreams, you might think you only remember a fragment or nothing but more and more will come back to you as you're lying there replaying the dream in your head. Also if you wake up during the night, jot down any notes and keywords about the dream that will help you recall it later.
