Hello, and welcome to my life.

      Hello,

I am DT, thanks for having me here.
I think some here already know me, but I will introduce myself anyway.
I come from the warm, red, dusty land of Western Australia.
My past is mostly unknown to me, as I am an amnesiac.
My current memory started a little over 4 years ago, with me laying in an emergency department bed, a nurse cutting off my shirt, concerned people that I don't recognise saying my name.

Everything before that moment, and a lot since, is unknown to me.
I have struggled a lot with issues such as false memories, inability to distinguish real memory from dream memory, and the inability to feel certain emotions.

Anyway, I have joined Dreamviews for a few reasons, mainly to learn, maybe to teach a bit, and to help out anyone as best I can.
In the past I have joined new sites with a hope that I will find an old account that my forgotten self owned, but I have kinda given up on that mission.

I have a few roos loose in the top paddock, but I haven't let that slow me down.

I am always happy to answer any questions about my journey with amnesia or anything else.
(Don't worry about asking questions that may be considered personal or "deep".
The only stupid question's are the ones that don't get asked.)

Well, I feel I have said enough for now, i'll be around.

Wow, amnesiac? How does that work? Dont you know what happened to you prior to the accident? Can't you rely on family or friends to tell what happened before that?

Thanks for the questions, I will try to explain it as best I can.

Amnesia, or amnesic syndrome, is pretty much memory loss or inability to form new memories. In my case I have lost memories. (I am classified as a retrograde amnesiac originating from post-traumatic amnesia) It is a pretty interesting subject, but i'm not going to go explain it all, that is google's job.

I lost memory from a period of time before the incident, i'm not sure exactly the time frame, as I categorize and organise memories with locations, not time. But it was enough time to throw me back into life with me having no idea what was going on.

My family filled me in on the major details of my life at the time, but they never bothered with anything else. Nowadays I never ask about my old life, as most of it has been filled in with false memories, and it shatters me whenever I learn about another one of my memories being fake. At the moment I remember small parts of my childhood, and I enjoy those memories, but I know that they have a high chance of being figments of my imagination.

Most of my post-incident false memories were generated in dreams, but I couldn't tell the difference between real memories and dream memories, so I considered them all to be real for a few years, this resulted in a few extremely embarrassing situations, so for a while I didn't trust any memory. I have slowly been working through this by using LDing to teach myself the difference between the types of memories.

I hope this answers your questions, let me know if you have any others.

Do you think you re a diffrent person after the accident?
Our memories shape our personality and define significantly what we call: 'self'
I could even go as far as to say that your old self died the moment you lost your memories and you re basically a completely diffrent person, but Im no expert on the matter.

      Welcome to the forum!

That's a very intriguing life story! Hope lucid dreaming helps you achieve your goals. I think on this occasion you are truly exploring new horizons. I do believe that we have a vast amount of knowledge and memories stored within us but is a matter of us being able to retrieve them especially on demand that is challenging. Maybe you will help bring insight into that area.
Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.
