Hey there, welcome to the forum! It's great that you taught yourself how to overcome your nightmares through lucid dreaming.
As far as your questions...you simply just need to get motivated. If you want to lucid dream...you just gotta make the decision to put in the time and effort. Like anything else. You'll only get out of it as much as you are willing to put into it. So...if it means doing more reality checks, getting to bed earlier, writing in your dream journal every morning...etc. it's just stuff you need to DO! And believe me, lucid dreaming is well worth the effort.
When it comes to lucid dreaming activities I was like you alot. I used to just go find boys to play with...but I always had problems. I could never get the right person to show up. Or if they did show up their face would always morph into someone or something else it it freaked me out a bit. So I don't really waste my time having lucid sex anymore. I think there's alot more rewarding things you can do in an LD that don't mess with your mind.
