how can i naturally sleep lighter?

i think alot of my trouble with recall is that i sleep like a rock.. under a bigger rock.. encased in steel and then reinforced cement... and then tossed in a really calm pond...

either way.. my question is: how can i lighten my sleep? how can i make myself less of a rediculously deep sleeper? when i fall asleep i don't drift off, i find an edge and then poof.. i'm plummeting.. i usually awake completely out of it because if i didnt have a job i could probably sleep 12+ hours daily...

      how do i change that?
      thanks all..

I am a deep sleeper and I honestly do not believe its that big of a problem. Once you start getting dreams and recording them I am willing to bet you will remember them even in the midst of deep sleep. For now, though, to get those initial dreams that will boost your recall I would WBTB. Set an alarm after 6 hours of sleep and wake up every hour afterwards until it is time to get up. Try this for awhile and I think your problem will be solved.

Totally. Last night, my roommate was blaring "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These" and we turned the lights out and it almost knocked me straight out. I also like to crank up other not-so-rock music like Death Cab For Cutie. It's just very relaxing and, now that I think of it, dream like. "Soul Meets Body" for crying out loud sound like a synonym for a lucid! lol... k a tangent but relevant nonetheless...

I think you're right on this. A lot of softer music I listen to knocks me out cold. Some good bands I'd recommend are Brand New, Sparta, The Manchester Orchestra, Set Your Goals, mewithoutYou, and possibly Kevin Devine.

      Hey Tony,

First off i can defintely say that it is possible to make yourself a lighter sleeper, its definately possible because i used to be a light sleeper as a child and now i am a really heavy sleeper. So it can be changed, its just how you do it.

I think the best thing you can do is train yourself to be able to do it, your never going to get a quick and easy way, you need to be dedicated, it may not take long, i don't know, the fact is that if you choose to go with what i am about to say you may need quite a bit of dedication.

Okay, my suggestion to you is that you go on a schedule over a few days in which you are free and do not need to get up really early for work or school or whatever. Set your alarm clock for 6, wake up, turn it off, then set it for 8, go back to sleep and wake at 8 to your alarm, then set your clock for 10 and wake up properly from that. Then repeat this on the next few days, you can apply this for anytime but the aim is so that you can train your body clock to be prepared for these moment in which your alarm goes off, the thing is that eventually after practice you will find yourself easily waking in the morning and sleeping lighter because your body thinks you are going to wake up to your alarm when your not. Hope that helped you out. Feel free to change it to what suits you.

Use self-suggestion and repeat to yourself to wake up at a certain time just before you go sleep. Self-suggestion genuinely works and is really easy to do.

You could say "I want to wake up at 8am" or something.

      thanks for everyone's replies...

on a random curiosity.. would any supplement help me? i ordered some b6 and melatonin and it should be here this week... i know b6 aids in the production of seratonin and melatonin, but would taking either or both of these be a help or a hindrance (sp?) in sleeping lighter?

oh.. and as far as loud music goes.... HAHAHA... i'm not of the type to care what volume music is at. i've got a pair of 10s in my car and i wear noise cancelling earpods.. that i keep loud enough i don't need to used the noise cancelling function (but it makes the bass so much nicer)

my friend and i like to crank XM on his bose at his house while we sleep... can't remember the channel, but it's the system.. all techno all the time... good stuff..

      thanks again
