A few comments here.
First, WILD in my opinion is a more advanced technique. Per the previous comment, I would really focus on DILDS and have some succes there first. WILDs sound very appealing, but they are relatively more difficult, perhaps impossible - depending on your brain chemistry.
However, if you are going to WILD, it's crucial to do it in concert w/ WBTB. The whole idea here is to maintain conscious awareness into stage 5 sleep. If you do this first thing in the evening, you'll need to maintain awareness for 80 minutes, through stage 3 and 4 sleep, before hitting that point. An impossible task, unless you're a Tibetan monk who's been training in sleep yoga for decades. If this is unlcear, review the sleep phase tutorial on the main dreamviews page.
SP is probably an overstated requirement. If you want to experience SP, buy a theta based Brainsuites CD from Dr Jeffrey Thompson and practice meditation to it, envisioning your body evaporating from toe to head over 20 min or so. If you can stay awake, you'll al,most certainly be in a SP state. I have other visionalization techniques but you can start there.
Finally, if your caught up w/ having WILDS, then read Yuschaks book and experiement with some of the lucid trigger combinations proposed there. Galantamine/Choline is wonderful in that regards.
