      I honestly need some help.

Ok, this post is going to be somewhat opposite of the majority of the posts on this site but I need help from people who know what they're talking about.
I have been lucid dreaming on and off ever since I was a child and as a child I would sleepwalk from time to time. I am 20 now and last year I thought it would be fun to try and refine my abilities with lucid dreaming. I did some research here as well as other sites and learned all about induction techniques and son on. Obviously laziness got the best of me and I gave up after a while. Then around 2 months ago I began to have a massive spike in the amount of lucid dreams I have.
I achieve lucidity on an average of four times per week. I should seem ecstatic but the dreams themselves are always quite negative. It always begins with a false awakening in my room, from there I always either am paralyzed in my bed or float up to the ceiling. There is usually a dark cloud all around and the pressure it exerts on my "body" is immense. That dream is then followed by 4 to 9 false awakenings, all neutral or negative, yet I remain in control. I check for device failure with my television, In fact last night the light burned out and I could see and smell the smoke rising. I am pretty scared right now and could use some good advice. Thanks!

What did you do to get the massive spike in dreams?

And are you under stress or have some pressing issue on your mind? Things like that can affect both dreams and performance in lucid dreams.

I have no idea, I'm in college and am under a fair amount of stress, I first believed it might have been from some pain killers I was taking for my my broken foot but I have been off them for weeks and the dreams keep happening.

The stress might be a source of the unpleasant dreams.

If you could get your dreaming under a little bit of control you could use the lucid dreams to relieve some of that stress.

How do you sleep, well? Do you go to bed at the same time every night, get up the same time every day? If not maybe you should try regulate your sleeping pattern if possible. That could help with the dreams as well as get your body accustomed to a fairly regular amount of sleep every night, which in turn might help reduce some stress.

I should add, since I forgot to in the first post, Welcome to Dream Views.
Sorry I didn't welcome you sooner. Must be getting senile in my old age.

lol thanks, my sleep pattern has been a bit crazy lately actually, That might be the problem, I think I might just try and find a way to control the situation when I start to lose control to stop all the false awakenings. That's the part I find to be a bit scary haha.

      Welcome to DV!

Expectation might also be a factor. Before you go to sleep, think of something that would be really fun to do in a dream. Then, the next time you find yourself in a negative lucid, remember that idea and focus all your attention on it. If you can't remember the exact idea or if you don't feel like it's working, just think of the first positive thing that comes to mind. One time I was WILDing and starting to transition into a dream; I started to get scared that I would end up in a negative dream. I noticed there were the colors blue and pink swirling below me, and I focused on that. I told myself that these colors represented "peace and love". Yeah, a bit corny (though my amusement at the corniness might have helped too). In any case, the dream turned out to be a positive one where I was interested in everything around me instead of afraid.

When you hear that cold wind calling,
Hold on tight to your dream."
