      Why is my lucidity weird?

I've covered the basics in another thread, but I'll recap here. I have dreams where I almost always have control over a variety of things, but it's more a feeling than an active "this is a dream" though. However, I do often think "this is a dream", and nothing seems to change. The dreams is just as hazy and murky as before, and I don't gain control over anything else. My RC indicated I was awake, although I knew I was dreaming.

My question is more: the accounts I've heard of lucidity made it sound like a new experience, like it had clarity, a wave of omnipotent happiness, and more logical thought, even on their first one. My experience is not at all like that. Why is my experience so different? (if I was even lucid..) Has anybody else had this? That a lucid dream is still very murky, and your brain still feels asleep? Does anybody know why this is?

And before somebody says I've asked this before, I haven't. I've asked some similar questions, like why I didn't become lucid, and was told that I was lucid in this dream... didn't feel very conscious.

Well, the thing is, I didn't think it was a lucid dream until someone told me that it was a lucid dream.

Check out this thread and it might make more sense.

Edit: After reading the link you posted, I agree that I wasn't conscious in my lucid dream, so it would be a "false lucid dream". Thank you for the clarification, but it doesn't really help.

How do I switch ON my consciousness if the realization that I was dreaming and the RC didn't do it?

Just sounds like you didn't have vivid lucids, try the stabilization technique?

But literally nothing changed at the realization that I was dreaming, except that the resistence to my running decreased. I agree with Mariano, that it was a false lucid dream.

Do stabilization techniques switch on consciousness, or only help switch it on? I need to find a way to switch on my consciousness in the case of a false lucid.

LD doesn't come with perfect clairity or conciousness, much less control, just knowing may change nothing depending on which the situation is, it happens to me and it is still a LD since I know I'm dreaming. I just call when that happens being stupid lucid.
The problem I say again, would be the level of lucidity rather than it not being a lucid, which is the thing that the clairity techniques should help for.
Oh right, conciousness effect on dreams depends on the person, so it may do nothing for you to be fully concious <.<

Interesting topic! I'd say you're experiencing a low level lucid or at least a non lucid dream with a lucid content if you see what I mean?
You can treat your subconcious mind as a mirror for your waking conscious mind if you like, and even though you may have said " I am dreaming" within the dream, it doesn't really amount to much unless subsequent events or RC's actually prove to your conscious mind that you are in fact dreaming right there and then.
I've had the same thing where I said "I must be dreaming!" ( after a man standing in front of me disappeared before my eyes) but that was my SC saying that at the time and not me actually realizing the fact. It was only after a table flew towards me from the now-invisible man that I truly realised I was dreaming and my conscious mind kicked in and I confirmed it with a conscious RC.

That's what most people are after I believe when they ask what a lucid dream actually feels like, knowing that they are now IN the dream and not OF the dream.

I don't think I ever became lucid, because I distinctly remember the feeling of disappointment that everything was the same at the realization. But I'll try switching RCs.

Oh that's starting to make sense. It syncs up with my experiences so far; I realized I was dreaming just because of a feeling, which would be subconscious. I tried performing an RC, but it told me I was awake. How do I stop myself from expecting what would happen in reality?

Also, are there any generic ways to wake up consciousness? For instance, trying to find patterns or reciting times tables? (I'm just guessing, just because I think this might activate the logic center)

you should try this: every time you do an RC become more aware, look very critically at your surroundings and make sure that in that moment you could be dreaming.
look for shift's reality check tutorial, she explains something like this

      bye!d

I'm in the same boat as you i'm afraid! I'm desperately trying to activate my own logic part of the brain, but it seems quite tough. I'd suggest following Shift's Reality Check tutorial though if you haven't already done so, as she's pretty much on the ball there. And try and make the RC's that you do perform quality ones where you really put the effort into believing you could be in a dream state whilst awake.

I'm personally trying to do Rc's where I kind of "shock" myself while doing them ie: if I hear a noise or a voice in another room at work I'll quickly do a nose plug RC and spin round and justify where I am and what I heard almost on hyper alert. This is obviously hard to do throughout the day as it's easy to forget many times when you could have done one.

Just to show you how bad logic is in my own case then check one of my earlier dreams in this link

      o_O very interesting dream.
My preferred method of RCing would be to simply try and make dream things happen, like turning off lights or jumping high or pushing my finger through my hand. However, when I do something that can only be done in a dream (like superpowers), I stay unconscious. Although, this might be because I'm doing things like that based on whim usually (which is more subconscious) rather than a conscious attempt to prove I'm dreaming.
