      HI + A few questions

Hi, I am new to the forums, and - Fairly obviously, I have some here because I am interested in Lucid dreaming.

Had a look through some of the posts and it looked like a really great site.

Anyway, time for the questions your all probably sick of answering:

I am interested in lucid dreaming, firstly because it sounds like great fun and I am really open to new stuff. But also because your dreams are direct access into your subconcious mind, and being a fairly complex person, understanding myself, and what I really want from life would be helpful.

I have managed to get slightly lucid dreams before, especially 8-9 years ago, when I was 6-7, when i was going through my childish nightmare phase, and I had learnt to take controll of my dreams by submitting to the ultimate problem.

It seems fairly straightforward to do, but the little bits like paralisis and hallucinations - (which I have had before in RL [with terrible outcomes])
are bugging me. Could someone please help me out to get me started?

Hello, welcome to Dreamviews! If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer and help you out.

You can definitely use lucid dreams for confronting nightmares, for understanding yourself better, and for having fun of course.

A good thing to know about lucid dreaming is that you can be lucid, but not be able to control the dream. Or you can control the dream and not be lucid. Being lucid is simply knowing you are dreaming. Dream control in lucids can sometimes take practice, and sometimes trying a few different techniques to see which things work best for you. We're all different in how our minds work, so when it comes to dreaming, always go with your own instincts and what works for you first.

May I ask, do you keep a dream journal right now? If you want, you can start a dream journal in the subforum here. It's really helpful to keep a dream journal because you'll have better recall, and it'll help you with a lot of your goals like understanding yourself better, getting lucid, ect.

      Hello and welcome to dreamviews.

Naiya pretty much told you most of what was needed to be said. Also don't be afraid of Sp or the Hi, nothing bad can come from it. If you have any more questions please ask, I don't think many people here get sick of answering them.

Welcome to Dreamviews! It very common to find yourself being frightened during SP. What I like to do is keep my breathing deep and slow, and think to myself, "It is all fake. It is all in your head. I cannot me harmed!" I just passively think these thoughts and it has gotten me through some horrifying hallucinations. When I get overly excited in an LD and I know it could potentially wake me up. I stop whatever I am doing at the time and take slow deep breathes synchronizing them with my actual body. Reality Checks can also help with stabilization/calming down. Doing these small things can help you stay in your dreams longer. Also, try not to think about/worry about waking up. This can sometimes wake you up instantly. Just keep engaged in dream activity whenever possible. Good Luck in your future efforts!

      Thanks guys.
I did in fact start keeping a dream journal about 3-4 days ago, but so far only one entry. But anyway, the strangest thing happened to me last night:

It was really late, about 1AM - just turned the TV off, and I lied on my back, and tried to get to sleep. I put my Ipod in, but realised that it was on a TV show - Which gave me an idea. It was an episode of the big bang theory, which I have seen a shameful number of times, and as opposed to actually watching it, I would try to picture all of the scenes from it in my mind, which was fairly easy- given the number of times that I have seen it. I began visualising the scenes, and drifted off. Then it actually happened.

It was the first time I have experienced anything like a WILD - but it was very shortlived.
I saw some colours swirling a little, and then they moved to form aspects of my room (perhaps my attention had shifted to that). After about 5 seconds of looking round the room, bit trippy, but otherwise fairly normal, I realised what was going on and I tried to get up and open my eyes. My body felt really heavy, but it was allright, compared to what I thought it would be like. I am very surprised I got that close to a wild though, considering how little time I have been trying for.

I am gonna try again tonight, so, got any tips?

Just remember that nothing can harm you while wilding. You go through the Sp and all of the things you experience during a wild every time you fall asleep. It is 100% safe and there is nothing to be afraid of, don't worry and I wish you the best of luck!

Don't get discouraged yet--it takes a little practice to WILD. The fact that you tried it means you have some experience to help you get farther along in the process next time. The most important thing is to keep trying it again and again. If you do, I gurantee that you WILL have a WILD, so don't give up!
