      First post!

      Hey guys!

I'm a practicing lucid dreamer from Alberta, Canada.

I actually stumbled upon lucid dreaming, as I was doing it before I even knew what it was. I was an avid journal writer in my teens (I started doing this around 13 or 14 years old, I'd say), and a big part of what I would write were the dreams I had. I often re-read my entries, which became a huge help in learning my dream cues... being able to tell when something was a dream and something was reality.

I actually recall the very first lucid dream that I had. I remember in my dream, I had some unique psychic ability and was being pursued by a CIA-like organization. It was super-scary and I was doing my best to avoid them. At one point, I was outside my house with my dad, they were there too and they shot him. I remember stopping and thinking, "No. I don't like where this is going! I don't want my dad to be shot and dying!" and basically just scene jumped back to that point and he successfully got me inside and away from the agents.

I did some research on what in the heck that was that I did. Was everyone able to just take control of their dreams like that an alter endings? I learned about lucid dreaming, however this was still early days in the internet (think back about 13 years ago, websites like these were there, but harder to find and certainly not as plentiful!) and I couldn't find out much more than the name and to keep doing what I was doing.

I'd put myself at a beginner -> intermediate level of lucid dreaming. I've been doing it long enough to know what it is and to alter things I like or don't like, but I don't have total control yet. There are nights where I have to fight with my dreams to get what I want out of them. I'm still quite amazed that despite fighting with my dreams, I don't wake up from that!

That is something I wanted to discuss, it's a huge part of why I joined this forum, so I'll write a quick blurb about some personal about me stuff and I'll mosey on over and find those forums.

So about me, I'm 26, I live in Alberta, Canada. I've grown up entirely fascinated with things that are "abnormal" (ghosts, and the afterlife, controlling dreams, even aliens to a small extent... and how many 8 year olds do you know that could tell you what spontaneous human combustion is? That was what I exposed myself to in my childhood).

On the normal side of life, I've grown up loving medieval fantasy type of literature (very Camelot and elves and magic and what not) which made it super easy to get into the world of online gaming, which is a pretty big part of my life (not addictively scary-so, but I don't really find the entertainment I want from TV, so I play online RPGs instead).

I also love music... not so much the tripe on the air today, I was born in entirely the wrong era. I love the Beatles more than anything in the world and most other random 60's music. I even had to learn how to beehive my hair because it's very old school awesome.

Alright, enough about me, I'm off to find those forums to discuss my current lucid dreaming issues!

Hai, Eternalstar, welcome to DV. =D
I've had lucid dreams my whole life, but it was only about a month ago I had a really vivid one. This sudden fascination made me look more into it, and I found this site. I've had tons more lucid dreams since; I hope the tutorials and people here will help you too (they've sure helped me).
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Hello eternalstar, and Welcome to Dreamviews! I too, had periodically kept dream journals and had lucid dreams throughout my life without knowing much about them or how to completely control them. I suggest continuing to keep a dream journal. DJs not only allow you to pick out dream signs and whatnot, but it also helps keep your mind on dreaming and that alone can often times lead to lucidity. I also suggest browsing through the tutorials section and you may be surprised to find there are many methods and techniques for becoming lucid. Here is the link: http://dreamviews.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=25 . Good Luck in your future efforts and again, Welcome !

Thanks for the welcome! I have gone through some tutorials and I'm pretty excited about trying out some techniques! I'm gravitating towards the D/MILD side of things, since I'm pretty much there already, but not yet actively telling myself to look for dream signs!
