      Quick question :D

just was writing up DJ and I think I'm remembering more dreams than I realise. When we wake up in the morning after a night without waking up does our mind merge all the dreams we had into one continuous memory? my dreams seem to have joined up in my head but there's no real connection or memory to how I got from one scene to the other and how the theme changes

okay so this question wasnt as quick as I hope but any help would be nice

Yeh this happens to me as well. I remember doing something and then something else completely unrelated with no transition between the two.

I just thought I had forgotten those bits but maybe your idea is right

You usually don't remember or notice the transition between dreams. This is because when one dream ends, is the end of your REM cycle. You then start the cycle over with Non-REM sleep that are dreamless and you cannot remember them. This is why it seems like your dreams are connected but unrelated.

Basically, where one dream seems "Connected" to the other, like where you think there would be a transition, that's where you should draw the line between dreams, because, most likely, thats where it ended. You see what I'm saying?

Crap, so I have to redo my DJ? lol

I've just been putting them together but note that there was an odd transition

I always thought that since you're mind is absent of rational thought that it would just switch to something else at will just because

You won't have to Redo your Dream Journal.

This has happened to me as well. It really doesn't matter if you remember the dreams as separate or as one, just that you remember them. And that is the purpose the Dream Journal serves.

hahahah this is exactly what I was worried about

but thanks guys, what you said makes perfect sense and also reassures me as I always thought I was only remembering one dream per night.. well turns out I'm remembering up to three!

I know exactly what you mean! Just last night this happened..I couldn't remember what dream was what, and if they were seperate. I just thought back to the main events and figured out that they actually were different, like I thought. You could try and remember if one was very blurry, and the other was very clear

It might, I often find that my dreams kind of blend together if I wake up a few times and remember a few each time, by the end fo the night I'm not sure what was seperate dreams.

I guess it's up to personal opinion, too? If I stay asleep all night, but through the course of that sleep I recall 3-4 different scenes, I count them as separate dreams. I generally get the fade-to-black that separates my dreams, though.
