New here, first FA after 2 days of learning

Hello everyone. I just had my first false awakening last night. I just learned about DV about 4-5 days ago but really go into it about 2-3. I first started off trying to WILD and start SP with some meditation music called "awakening"

It seems to relax me a lot but I feel like I don't dream when I listen to this music. It is nothing but mild/heavy rain for 30+ Minutes. Any input? Volume is set to drown out the window AC noise right next to me but it's not very loud and it seems very soothing to me.

Anyways, two nights ago I started keeping a dream journal. I slept that night and all I could remember was some weird dream about me thinking/talking about lucid dreaming while FLOATING around my bed... guess that didn't make me lucid! So I wrote that down.

BUT! I'm an avid cannabis user. I have my medical recommendation and use it for insomnia. I recently read to not smoke 2-4 hours before you go to sleep so it doesn't affect your REM cycles. For once in a very long time I went to sleep w/o smoking my medicine.

      That's when I had 5 dreams that I recalled! Now, I don't think that's a coincidence but 5 dreams instead of 1 maybe-dream seems good to me!

I think I will cut back on the medicine 4-6 hours before I go to sleep to hopefully stimulate my mind. I realized all of these methods HELP me get to sleep really really fast and I don't stay awake all night!

Oh yeah and the false awakening was me getting excited because my brother woke up me and asked if anything happened last night (lucid dream ect) and I was super excited. In my dream I grabbed my dream journal and started flipping through it only to wake up... lol!

Anyways just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences and of course to all of the tutorials everyone has made.

I feel I have progressed in the 3-4 days i've been here. Before coming to DV I NEVER remembered any dreams except 1 every 6 months! Just telling myself I will remember my dreams REALLY did work. I can believe it becuase it happened.

I will Lucid Dream. I know it takes time but eventually it will happen and I will not force it. I will keep pacing myself with all of this great knowledge.

      Thank you again DV.

      Hey there, welcome to DV!

It's great that your recall is improving. Are you trying to WILD at the beginning of the night, or are you doing a WBTB (wake-back-to-bed)? At the beginning of the night you get much less REM sleep than after 5-6 hours of sleep. If you have insomnia, though, you might not want to wake up in the middle of the night.

White noise can be good for WILD as it helps to keep you from getting distracted by sounds. If it helps you relax, then that's even better. Personally I wear earplugs when I attempt WILD to drown out external sounds, but I haven't exactly had much success.

Thanks for your reply. I Am trying WILD right as I go to bed. I do keep in mind that it is better to exercise WBTB technique. I have had no success in WILDing but this is my second real night trying it.

I am trying to use the WBTB technique but have a really hard time not passing out after thinking about "having a lucid dream" in my head for a few minutes.

Also, I HAVE noticed that after 5-6 hours of sleep I can start recalling my dreams. So I fully believe there is something to the WBTB technique.

I'm sure you will get your WILD techniques down soon enough. I've learned patients is everything. Time will give us what we want.

I've heard that WILD is nearly impossible at the beginning of the night.

If you have trouble with falling asleep too quickly during your WBTB, you can try sleeping for longer than 6 hours before waking up. Just experiment and see what works for you.

Yeah, WBTB does wonders for my recall as well. =) Patience is pretty important... Unfortunately, it's not one of my stronger areas. ^^' I think I need to pick one technique and stick with it. They just all seem so good!

      Hey Kitty,
Sounds like you're same place I am but a couple days ahead So you think that cutting the cannabis use back before bed helped? I medicate daily from about 4pm until bedtime. I'll try going cold turkey tonight and see what happens.

I will not say forsure but i'm going along with what i've read from multiple sources. It seems that it "affects" yours REM sleep and blocks certain receptors but they don't know what it blocks? So i'm not quite sure if it's a bad thing. But, to each his own.

Use cannabis to help stimulate your hallucinations. My brother is a natural at SP and smokes a bowl before bed to stimulate his hallucinations, he said that it actually helped him calm down and seemed like he was seeing way more stuff.

Anyways, what i'm doing is not Medicating 3-4 hours before I go to sleep. I acutally had an edible 1 hour before I went to sleep 2 nights ago and had 0 dream recall! It really made me mad but I realized it was probably the sedation effect... or it's just in my head! The power of your brain is awesome.

Btw, since I made this post about 2-3 days ago i've had more progress.

I used the saltcube timer thing http://www.saltcube.com/timer.swf and it seemed to make me more aware in my dreams. The third dream i had that night was about how the timer was TOO LOUD to wake me up LOL! And I dreamed that it was a trial version so it wasn't working any more... lol that alarm must of pissed my sub-c off to trick me like that. *FYI - my timer is like this 270-40-40-40...ect

In total I had 5 dreams recalled last night with 1-2 that faded away instantly! I keep waking up thinking I had NO dream whatsoever only to lie still for about 10-15 seconds and recall bits and pieces. When that happens I grab my dream journal and start writing, I also stop and lie down for a minute or two to try to recall more.

Enough of this! Just up for WBTB technique (yeah it's late but sleeping in is fun since I can dream so much more!)

      ENJOY and good luck everyone!
