Hi am a fairley new lucid dreamer

for about a month i have been experimenting with Lucid dreams and am still figuring out some things. I am very glad i found this site because i have already learned a lot i didn't know before, and everyone seems very help full. With that said i wouldl like to ask a qustion. Last night i had a dream about what i was going to do the next day. I had been studdying for finals the night before and did my normal routine nd went to bed. my whole dream was very confusing. My school was much bigger then in real life and i became lost. I looked at the clock and i saw no time but symbols. Then i asked my self if i was in a dream. Pinched my wrist and said , " nope this must be real" anyone no why i wasnt able to figure out if i was in a dream or not. All answers are appreciated thank you

First of all, welcome to DV!

It's good that you were able to question the reality of your dream, but you went about it in the wrong way. Pinching yourself is not a good reality check, because it IS possible to feel pain in dreams. (And very vivid pain, at that.) A better way is to pinch your nose to see if you can still breathe, or to see if you can push your finger through your hand. Also, its good to do more than one reality check at a time, in case one fails.
