It's sad how people judge her for being addicted to drugs, everyone makes mistakes, and all mistakes are different, her's was just too hard to fix. (To add to my inspiration comment): She taught me that I can rise above from rock bottom, she just needed to realise that for herself :/

I've seen one or two videos on youtube and it was unbearable how horrible it was.

I'm in the same boat as a couple of the other posters, never cared for her music, only seen a few awful pictures here and there. Still, always sad when someone passes.

I can't help but wonder how many people, who are so disgusted that someone would post something like that on Twitter/Facebook/etc., have actually had a really close friend die.

Sometimes it's just easier to ridicule people than it is to understand where they're coming from.

So did I, which is what anyone who can't relate to how she's probably feeling about the situation might assume.

That's why I said what I said.

I remember making a post here, and on facebook, when my father died. I couldn't give a fuck less about 'attention.' Sometimes it's just good to have a little support from peers, when you're going through tragedy. Of course, when you're removed from the situation, it's much easier (and more self-righteous) to just assume that people in need of a little support are just crying out for attention.

You're probably correct.

I think the more important point he had, though, is the observation that people are expressing their grief through twitter.
Where people at best can post 140 word responses to you. And most of them are people you've never met.

But yeah, criticising people for something society has set them up to do is really pointing blame at the wrong thing.

Also, I still want to know, was she really a good singer? Or good at something I'm not aware of?

I think there's a difference between telling your friends on Facebook (which I distinctly remember my friend doing when his brother committed suicide, condescension is always appreciated though) and telling your thousands of fans on twitter. It just struck me as gaudy lugubriousness because the entire image of Twitter is posting pointless messages that just say 'I did this' or 'I think this' without the ability to write anything substantial.
