Can you make fire with no resources?

You have wood, tinder and a knife. No lighter, flint, char cloth... I'm just curious to how many people can do it. I had to do it last weekend, I've done it before, but it's not as easy as most people think. Extra props for a YouTube vid of you actually doing it

Yeah I did this when I was in Boyscouts. I used this method:

Except I didn't have a notch in the wood, I put the tinder right behind the stick.

I fail hard at being one with nature. I can't do anything outside.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Interesting, didn't know you could do that. The notch is actually to provide it with air as much as it is to dump the ember. I imagine it's significantly harder to do without a notch.
Thats the method I used this weekend.

Yeah it was was pretty brutal. I was fortunate to have extremely dry wood, so it worked out. If I was going to do it again I'd probably use the technique Tom Hanks did in Castaway.

He took a stick and slid it through the groove at an angle. Looks a lot easier than having to constantly adjust your hands as they slide down the stick when you roll it.

Did it once or twice when I was in Cadets. Was stupid hard, thought it be easier than that.

Actually, that's much harder than a friction drill, I've used that technique too, it took much longer.
