Lowe's succumbs to Anti-Muslim activists, pulls ads from "All-American Muslim" and loses my respect

      All-American Muslim Meets an Un-American Advertising Pullout | Entertainment | TIME.com

Apparently shortly after, Russell Simmons bought the ad-space.

Sometimes I can't help but facepalm and add another company to my "boycott" list. Seriously? The Florida Family Association claims the show is too "Pro-Muslim" by NOT portraying all Muslims as bad people. They want people to be reminded of the bad things that a small sect of Muslims have done...

Yeah, and for every TV show involving a Christian family, we can remind everyone about the Crusades and Witch Hunts. GREAT IDEA!

That is why companies should avoid politics and just do what their in business to do.

Lulz, here in Canada, Little Mosque On The Prairie is one of the most popular shows on tv (or at least it was at one point, not sure about now).

Am I supposed to understand that if the TV show were about a muslim family that secretly operated as a terrorist cell for Al Qaeda it would have been fine?

I saw it earlier, the Senator in the state is pushing a discrimination lawsuit against Lowes.

It's really sad sometimes... because people here joke around about a Muslim friend "being a terrorist" even though it's not really that funny. I made a simple statement pretty much saying "Muslim does not equal terrorist" and one of my Muslim friends said "that was really cool" but it wasn't cool... it was just the ONLY logical conclusion you can reach... isn't it? (key word being logical.) And then people assume that all Muslims are Middle-Eastern even though only about 30% are...

And on and on and on and I want to strangle puppies... but I won't because that would be mean.

Lowe's? They were just following profits. The Christian group (sorry, "family" group) should be the ones getting hit with a lawsuit.

Is it not profitable to not advertise...? Because they seem like they are losing customers from the blowback.

Anyways they shouldn't have succumbed to that "family" group... I doubt the endorsement of the family group will really affect their sales (although who knows? maybe they will...)

They won't. Companies really do suck at PR. Almost universally. They think oh lawd one group of people are going to bring us down, better appease them before they bring everyone else along for the ride!
When in reality almost everyone looks at that one group and goes.... wtf?
And then the company ends up looking like a bunch of morons.

It's like the Michael Phelps thing, literally no one gave a shit, but the media made it seem like it was an outrage. And Kellogg's sales went down dramatically AFTER they broke his contract.

Chances are there are dozens of other people with ads on during the show, most of them not caring what the show is about, but instead about the demographics of the people who watch. Had they just ignored the group it is unlikely the group would boycott all companies that had ads running, and if they did it is way to many for a serious boycott and most members wouldn't really put in the effort.

Why is it that the corporate-backed special interest groups and the CRAZY special interest groups get things accomplished, but the serious ones never do?

What a shame... lobbying was a good thing until it was taken advantage of... (but then again isn't everything?)

They are doing what they're in business to do. They are attempting to protect their assets. They are so pussified by the idea of losing a significant margin of their clientele, that they are stepping on their own dicks, trying to appease who they think to be the winning side of the argument - namely, the anti-Islamic side. Sounds like good (misguided) business as usual, to me.

      Sorry, not sure if serious.

But seriously, though, this is pretty messed up, though not the least bit surprising.

This isn't surprising at all. Since 9/11 and Bush, the whole climate of America has been "all Muslims/Arabs are evil backwards terrorists, don't trust them".
