Jane McGonigal: The game that can give you 10 extra years of life - TED talk

I think this will be able to help a lot of people here.

I've just started the game at www.superbetter.com

What the TED talk first and see if it will interest you.
There's heaps of different activities/missions etc. that can
help you overcome situations IRL. Basically training your mental abilities through a game-like program.

It may seem stupid at first, with the simple missions you have to do, but the idea is like in any other physical training program, which is to start off small.

And if anyone enjoys it and wants to add me as an ally on there, feel free

I second what Jeff said. I've tried it for one day now and it succeeded in motivating me a lot. Really made me want to get out of my chair and do things.
It's certainly interesting, even if the site seems a little weird and the mechanics are odd. For example I can't really figure out how the bad-guys work. I mean, it's hard to tell when exactly you've "battled" one?

      Also fuck social resilience tasks.
      But thanks for sharing this!

Yeah, design is a little weird, but I'm sure it will get better. Probably difficult to make it all work well and simply with so many different facets.

haha. That just means those are the ones you should do even more!
Dw, I need to as well.

Oh and I'd like to thank Preserver for showing me the TED talk video.

EDIT: You guys might wanna get the app too, since it's free at the moment.

Life can be pretty tedious, graphics are good though.

You chose "mindlessly surf the web" -1 resilience

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I just took a look at them today, basically from what I can tell, you choose one of the bad guys and then go to the power-ups section and choose one of those ways to beat the bad guys. For example "The Sky Is Falling!"

      • Description: Excessive catastrophizing in which you imagine the worst possible outcome repeatedly. Vanquish with any of the Power-Ups!

So when this situation comes up, for instance if I keep thinking I'm going to fail some test,
I will choose the Power-Up (which is a method for beating this bad guy)
      "Turning Fear Into Excitement"
      Description:
Any time you (even slightly) enjoy being afraid or anxious by adding breath or imagining a positive outcome.'

EDIT: Holy crap the description on that is bad. Basically, to defeat the bad guy, turn your fear in to excitement.
Fear would be cowering away, avoiding it etc. Excitement is using that energy to go directly at it.
