I must admit, I was scared in the beginning when people suggested backing up DJ's etc.

I had a good share in the fun when I realised this would probably be a joke by the staff and decided to throw in 'DV chat'. That was an account created 3 days ago because someone mentioned it would be funny if there was someone called like that and he could write people going online and offline etc. Well, I did expect to have a little fun with doing so, but man, this joke came exactly on the right time in all chaos.

See the unfortunate difference in layout, it didn't work as sweet as expected. But it got picked up by some paranoid users suggesting I was the hacker

I didn't plan anything, so I just made a random comment about 'all your base' (glad I could educate some people about this CLASSIC, LOL) and had a big laugh with some random 'all your base' quotes. I tried to hint from my own account, linking the video and all, quoting the same vid later from 'DV chat's account. Even though people were finding out that 'DV chat' must have been from europe or japan, due to time difference (well noticed!), and the bad English (That's called Engrish, and part of the All Your Base humor ) but no one was able to connect it with me (well, maybe I was safe because I was still in chat as myself, using both FF an IE)

I was trying to make a fun ending to it, because people were getting seriously suspicious and angry, but that didn't exactly work out, so I just left (coming back hours later, seeing the mystery still hadn't been solved) .

I'm glad I was able to share in the fun
But now what I don't understand, is that there are some (staff)members who had a very good day/night of fun, but are unwilling to acknowledge the feelings of some members. (most of them do, thank you for that) When people are this strongly involved in the forum, you should be glad that they were expressing their feelings and NOT trying to make them feel worse by humilliating them in front of the whole group.

Why can't you just be honestly sorry for them AND have your fun at the same time? One doesn't rule out the other and it would make more people satisfied.

I completely understand the joke, had my (unintended) share in it too but I ALSO feel for the people who got so stressed that it wasn't funny to them anymore. Hugs for all those who were hurt!

Thanks for the info on how these things work lol I have no idea, this is the first forum I have ever been part of and spending almost all my time in the DJ section I didnt know about this until I went into chat to hear about all this stuff.

Your right, I cant speak for everyone, but personally this site means a whole lot to me. I have made some good friends here to, which is one of the reasons for my posting in here.

Like I said I can appreciate the joke and had I been a little more educated on how these things work I probably would have found it very funny, that being said I still think given all our concern (which shows how much we care for this site) some of the replies have been harsh and I think that is what annoys people more then the actual joke.

On that note, did one of the staff change my avatar last night? I pretended to be hacked and forgot to be invisible so I went to turn the invisible off, and when I went back to my posts I discovered my avatar had changed from the all-seeing-eye to this weird blue duck. Confusing . . .

That may be your personal view but me and many others believe that although this was a little risqué, it was a pretty funny thing in the end. It showed others, and even ourselves, how much we love DV, how much we'd hate it to be taken away and how much we take it for granted. It proved to be one of the best chat convos I've been in with more news popping up constantly: "Oh no! They got Amé Star!"

Although it was a false alarm, we banded together and tried to keep the site in order by making the room "The staff have been hacked. Don't post anything!" and the thread "Stop Posting About The Staff". I think overall it brought out the best in DV.

I can see it upset a lot of people. Mark spent the best part of his entire life backing-up his DJ and even I got worried that my favourite forum was for the chopping block. I practically skinned DV chat (Sara) alive and swore like no other but I can't help laughing at the memories.

I think you'll find that there is also a very large number of people who are very angry about this whole screw-up.

The mods have betrayed our trust and abused their power. What kind of a forum has mods who you can't respect or trust?

All this seemed pretty obvious to me. The choice of avatar and the frequency and variation of posts between staff was just too perfect. Great job though. Very, very funny indeed.

Seriously guys, the more I think about it the more stupid the whole thing seems. The mods are here to keep order, stop spam, allow people to enjoy the forum, and have intellectual discussion. What they've done here is spam the forum, abuse their power, annoy many people, interrupted topics, and probably made lots of people wonder who the most mature people on the forum really are - the mods or the members?

Some of the mods have said they understand it was bad taste and we should be happy with that, it shows great strength of character to understand that they may have offended some people. Those who insist on being bitch ...well frankly they shouldn't be in positions of power should they

Those aren't the ONLY reasons the mods are here. You know, before all you yougins came along, we actually used to come around here for FUN!!! (omg imagine that, mods want to have fun like normal people?), and for the community which was kick ass!! We have been feeling too separated from the community lately...we tried to pull a prank to show you guys that, 1. we aren't afraid to have a little fun, 2. we want the community to be closer and be able to do shit like this without people getting ridiculously offended.

That's the difference between a large forum like LD4ALL and Dream Views. We don't want to become like every other forum, where the staff are like bots, and never even really interact with the community anymore. The staff sets the tone of the community...was what we did horrible and irresponsible like you claim? No! We're trying to show you guys that we're human, we aren't ONLY on DV to mod and take care of all your poo poo, we're here to have fun as well. We've been around long before you guys, having fun, playing pranks, and we never had people freak out like this before. To me that just shows how separated the staff is from the community, it's sad...but you guys don't seem willing to let us "be human" and have our fun ...if you really want mods that only clean up the spam, fix threads, and ignore the rest of you...then go somewhere else, cause that's not gonna happen here!!!

edit: and you all should be thanking us for making you back up your DJs thats something you should have been doing anyway! I've lost my DJ here before and had to learn the hard way

Well said. Though I must say since I have been here I have never felt that you folks were in danger of such a thing. I have always seen you guys as both down to earth and genial for the forum (meaning integrity will not be lost in any case); nonetheless I find it interesting that this was done for such a good reason; even if it had not, it was damn funny.

see my view of the community is that we are close, granted im mainly in the DJ section but we all get on there, PJ, Oneironaut, Vex and moonbeam...I like to think we are friends .

Your statement pitches you against us, and if insulting people is your way to get things back to before all us young'uns came along maybe its wrong that you should be a mod.

Well it's done the opposite for pretty much everyone...but like a very small handful of people who, for whatever reason, decided to get pissed off about it, rather than take it like a man...and just say, "wow, yeah, you got me!! Well done!"

It's interesting how everyone else seems to find it quite humorous, and actually say they had a good time and will "remember it forever" etc. etc. etc. I have lots of good quotes from throughout that day. Other people say "it brought us closer together"

So...I guess we succeeded in one of our goals. Just not with a few of you, and that's YOUR decision. But hey you know what? I don't think I've ever spoken to you before. And before last night...I had never spoken to Jeff before. So even if some of you ARE pissed off, at least we're finally getting an introduction.

The prank was stupid, yeah, but it was a prank.
