As you're on the verge of sleep, sometime you may feel "phantom limbs", and additional set of arms and legs that aren't real.

The first state of falling asleep is usually Hypnagogic Imagery. Here you'll see random images or scenes, mostly pretty simple in nature. Or maybe you'll hear random voices, maybe even feel something in your bed, although visuals are the most common.

Most HI is preceded by daydreaming, but not always. Sometimes it will just start suddenly. These images are what the early part of your dream are based on, continuing that theme, or expanding on a certain part of it.

Sometime you skip the HI stage completely, and your dream will usually be a fairly accurate depiction of your room. This is because instead of building off the HI, it builds off the last thing you were aware of, yourself in your room.

HI ends and dreaming begins the moment you have a full dream body, and you become a participant rather than an observer. This early part of the dream is very unstable and fragile, and you'll probably notice there is detail missing, with lots of dark patches than need to be filled in.

Keep paying close attention to what happens as you fall asleep, and you will have a successful WILD in no time.

It always amazes me how intense the sensations can be when we give them our attention. We go through this crazy trip every night, and somehow never notice it?

Wow, this happened to me on my first attempt.

I was laying there counting my breaths and being all meditative and after like my 700 and something(th) breath everything was numb, my sheets felt really heavy and I felt like i was sinking into my bed and I don't know if i entered REM but my eyes started flittering up and down and in each up and down movement I saw blurry images and eventually it passed and I was laying there numb and no longer able to fall into a dream. It was like I had been asleep for 20 minutes but didn't dream and was still awake. It was weird, I don't think I ever actually fell asleep

First time I attempted doing that, which was quite recently, I lied still just counting in my mind (trying to create images of each number), after what seemed like it could have been 10 minutes to an hour (I lost track of time counting) I felt a sudden wave of... something... rush over my entire body. After that I got up and felt kind of energised which was really strange.

I need to try it more often.

I feel you man. I havnt had a successful WILD yet, but I remember my first attempt I got to a stage where I hear a loud hollow thud in my ear as if someone hit me over the head with a pvc pipe. Needless to say that was enough to make me sit up suddenly and ruin everything lol.

Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.
