      A dream almost killed me!

This night i got a scary experience.

In real life before sleep, i was watching something on history channel. Some guy said: "people who dies from nuclear explosions dies because they breath hot gases that burn them from inside"

After a long dream, i was outside of my school waiting for my mom. I looked at other street and saw everything shaking. I said "huh, an earthquake here?" Then BAM, a nuclear explosion. I runned, and said "Last time i saw a nuclear explosion, it was a dream! This should be too!" Pinched my nose, tried to breath, but NOTHING! (i was breathing but didn't noticed lol) then i said "oh my god this is real life" and runned and runned and done several reality checks and didn't noticed that was a dream. Them i felt something hot inside me that started to burn me from inside "oh no the hot gases"... Then i woke up and i was still feeling that, something really strong burning me, but after 1 minute it stopped.

In a Real World nuclear explosion according to tests, etc humans and animals would instantly vaporize near the centre (ground zero) of the explosion. A little further outwards there are effects from heat resulting in severe burns, mostly from outside, athough the shockwave from the blast may rupture the lungs by pressure difference between outside and inside of body. The TV documentory may be referring to that. At that distance the thermal shock of the heat would result in a "merciful quick death", so really that individual would have little to worry about! Though the effects of a nuclear explosion from heat, blast, and fallout, and the aftermaths such as nuclear winter would be devastating to people and society alike (a film like Threads 1984 will depicts the effects well).

Often dreams reflects on disturbing thoughts earlier, and the attempt of the mind to understand and assimilate such disturbing thoughts and facts.

Not Really...Once I had one of my arm cut in a dream by a chainsaw and it hurt like hell, then I woke up and the pain was still there and I was barely able to feel my arm, it was because I bashed my arm on the corner of my window while sleeping. I was pretty amaze.

That's what I was thinking. The same kind of things have happened to me. I dreamt a dog bit me on the stomach and it hurt pretty bad, when I woke up my stomach still hurt because I was sleeping on my hand and my fingers were digging into my gut. Maybe your dream was telling you in your dream that you were suffering from inhaling hot gases from the blast but in actuality it was just your own hot gas.

      It really isn't.

I still remember one of the worst dreams I ever had, from about 2 years ago. It was night time, and I was walking down the road to my old elementary school. As I got there, my brother and cousin appeared from nowhere and dragged me onto a table. I was thinking, "Just stay calm, they're just messing with you", when suddenly my brother pulled out a knife. I then thought to myself "Well, I must be dreaming, this wouldn't happen in reality".

Almost immediately after I finished that thought, my brother started to cut down the length of my arm. The pain was intense, and at that point I began to panic. I kept trying to roll over, blinking, pinching myself, but nothing was working. I could only lay there as my brother peeled the skin off my arm, and showed it to me. That's not even the worst part.

My cousin then pulls out an axe, swings it down on my leg, and cuts it off from the thigh down. I was in shock at that point, because I kept screaming. Then suddenly I woke up.

I proceeded to stay awake for roughly 3 days. The thought of going to sleep and having another horrible dream like that -- a dream that literally makes me ache to think about -- kept me wide awake.

You guys with the scary dreams: consider that these are night frights. Also, be careful with what you stimulate your brain with before you go to sleep... I normally go on here and it helps me to become partially lucid or talk about lucidity in my dreams (i dont become lucid...i know, pretty stupid)

I had something like that happen to me. I was in San Fransisco and I was walking around looking for a spot to write my name and i saw a tall parking garage. I decided to go up to the top floor and go out on the ledge to do it there. I got up there and started. Then a security guard came out and yelled "STOP!" , and I thought oh shit what am I gonna do. So I turned around and saw another another parking garage and decided to jump to the floor across from me. When I jumped I came just short of grabbing the ledge and plummeted to the ground. I had the feeling of falling and laying in my bed, it was crazy lol! When I hit the ground a shock went through my body and I woke up numb and couldn't lift my right arm which freaked me out for a bit till I came to the conclusion that I had probably just slept on it. That dream was awesome and a little scary.

Oh and im gonna start being more active on the forum. I forgot about lucid dreaming for a few months but I'M BACK!!!!!!!! not that any of you know me.

I know how it feels to be terrified about something that seems real.

This night I woke up early (~4:00 AM) and decided to not go to sleep since it was close to morning. After several hours, I got sleepy so I went to bed at 7:00 AM. I didn't actually went to dreaming, but I entered sleep paralysis. I was sleeping with my face down (something I never do). I started becoming paralyzed and feeling that I couldn't breath. I felt as it my whole body concentrated into my head. I started panicking and felt sheer terror as I started hearing my heart beat really fast. I started saying in my head "OMG I am dead!". After ~20 seconds of panic and terror, everything went back to normal and I could "breath" again.

What can we learn from our stories? Well, it's all just in your head .

Sounds intense. Tactile senses are used in the dream, which is why it felt very real to you. However, - you need not worry, all part of the dream world.

You might have been holding your breath without realizing it and it caused your lungs to burn. That has happened to me when I had a dream that I was swimming. I woke up and almost passed out.
Another thing that could have happened, as Ars_Moriendi mentioned that it could have been heartburn.
So your mind could have tried to make sense of the burning feeling, and made the connection with the nuclear bomb on TV.

Such lame excuses to explain that away.

Everything requires your attention to exist. You created that pain by focusing on it. First from that show you watched, then it became real by focusing your attention on it.

Cusp is right, you focused on it and it allowed it to manifest strongly in your dreams. That's just how dreams roll, perception creates reality.

Anyways, if it wasn't psychological remnants when you woke up (pain is a mental construction that utilizes the nerves for indicators) it could have simply been heartburn or a number of other random minor things, sleep apnea even?
